Lmao I just got another text "likening" him to John Wooden. From a Division II head coach and former mid-major assistant coach: "Bart Lundy is going to look like John Wooden next to Pat Baldwin." Most people on this board could look like John Wooden compared to Pat Baldwin 😁. I said just having a guy in here who knows who to play and when to play them. If he can get some of the current group to buy in they will be much much better next year. There are still some solid players in the state not signed up and im sure he will be looking to add in the transfer portal.

Well, from what I gather, I think this isn't a terrible hire. Not great, but not terrible. I'm willing to renew my season ticket for next year at least, to see what he can do.
At least he'll probably be able to reteach the players the basic basketball fundamentals like ball control and getting past a full-court press.

I would've taken McCollum or Howlett over Lundy. That said, we'll probably never know if either or both were contacted and weren't interested. At least Lundy has head coaching experience and has had some success. Time will tell.

I was hoping for McCollum but figured that would be too good to be true. My happiness over Baldwin being gone outweighs any letdown over who the new head coach is.

I sincerely hope that Bart, after Bo (51) our second-oldest hire of the modern era, can excel in the areas of player, program and character development and handle media availabilities with aplomb. These are absolutely essential traits here.

Next step has to be the adoption of a live Panther as team mascot ala the Bulldogs.

What happened to the other guy? 🙄
I have no doubt this guy is at least an improvement over the last guy. As noted, a very, very low bar. But I sure hope he recruits in a way that he never has to use some of the great program management skills he may have learned under Scuzz, like how to get everybody’s story straight before the police interviews.
Anyway, the day could still be a success if Braun announces “My work is done here, I’m resigning to explore the ice caves of Antarctica.”
Probably not though. More likely she’ll still be running the program when she next decides that it’s time to make a splashy new hire in men’s basketball so that it can meet her standards.
And on that note, let’s see if she’s actually cynical enough to announce her bullsh*t standards again with the new guy within earshot so we can all see the look on his face.

My biggest requirement was head coaching experience. I didnt want to hire any more assistant coaches who spent the last few years babysitting players instead of coaching.
McCollum was a pipe dream IMO as the last bunch of years have shown how far we have fallen.
Looking forward to see what we do recruiting wise.

I guess we'll see what happens. I'm not excited about the hire, and I don't blame any of you that are withholding season ticket renewals to wait and see.

My NBA guy said Lundy can coach. Not the big name, but he is a very good coach and will coach his players up.

Straight up ill renew if my price is the same as last season, its like 8 dollars a game. If I ever went to get my free beers im basically paying like 3 or 4 bucks for each game.

It is not important at this time if the crowd goes mild. We saw how fleeting that was a few months ago with the PBJ hype. What is important will be how the crowd goes once BL gets established here.
First I wanted a WINNING head coach. Second I wanted someone who communicates well. I did not want the decision to be influenced by EEO concerns or political pressure. I did want someone younger, but I knew there was no one available to check every box. 50 is not like whatever Scott Davenport or Bruce Weber are (my gosh, they are even older than me!).
I need to dig deeper later, but my first impression is a good one. I'm happy right now. Now, lets hope we do not go through some sort of TJ Otzelberger drama and/or BL does not go all Ken Anderson on us.

Here is the JS story, for those who cannot access:
UWM is set to hire Bart Lundy of Division II Queens University as its men's basketball coach Todd Rosiak Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Bart Lundy, who has spent the past nine seasons at Queens University, was a Division I head coach at High Point from 2003-09. UW-Milwaukee was looking for head-coaching experience, energy and familiarity with the city and region in its new men's basketball coach.
Bart Lundy checked all those boxes, and sources familiar with the search confirmed Friday he will be hired to replace Pat Baldwin.
UWM didn't immediately announce the hiring. But once it becomes official, Lundy will become the 23rd coach in program history.
Lundy, 50, comes to UWM after a nine-season stint as coach at Queens University in Charlotte, where he compiled a record of 333-103 made seven consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II tournament.
Queens finished 30-4 this season, its third consecutive 30-win season under Lundy.
From 2009-12, Lundy served as director of basketball operations at Marquette under then-coach Buzz Williams.
He then spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant at North Texas.
Prior to his time at MU, Lundy was head coach at High Point, compiling a 96-87 record there from 2003-09. At 31 years old at the time of his hiring, he was the second-youngest Division I head coach in the country.
The highlight there was a 19-11 campaign in his first year, a performance that earned him the 2004 NCAA Division I rookie head coach of the year award.
Lundy's first head-coaching job also came at Queens; he was 115-41 from 1998-2003 before leaving for the job at High Point.
He was in Milwaukee earlier this week to interview for the job, with Division II Southwest Missouri State head coach Ben McCollum and Southern Indiana head coach Stan Gouard also believed to be finalists.
Lundy will have his work cut out for him, as the Panthers haven't posted a winning season since 2015-16, three coaches ago. UWM went 57-92 overall and 34-59 in Horizon League play in five seasons under Baldwin.
There will also be the business of remaking a roster which will be without many of its top players due to graduation and transfer.
Patrick Baldwin Jr., meanwhile, is likely to explore his NBA options and wouldn't have been expected to return in any event after his father's ouster as coach.
There also is the issue of flagging fan support, with UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena mostly empty for games. Lundy's ability to engage supporters as well as a largely apathetic student body will also be crucial to his long-term success.
Athletic director Amanda Braun listed the primary qualifications she and the search committee were looking for as the process began.
“Like everyone else, you want it all – you want somebody that cares about their student-athletes,” she told the Journal Sentinel. “From an academics and life-development perspective and that sort of thing. We also want someone that’s excited about being on a college campus and working for something bigger than themselves than just the program and the team.
“Then from the basketball standpoint, I think the program deserves and will attract some folks with real success as coaches. So, we’ll key in on that. A lot of the other things that you consider are have they recruited in our region? Are they familiar with mid-major-type conferences? Do they understand what that means, and the benefits and challenges that come along with that?”
Having already spent three years in Milwaukee during his time at MU, Lundy will most certainly look to land one or more assistants with ties to the area in order to establish a recruiting base.
A native of Galax, Virginia, Lundy played college basketball at North Carolina-Pembroke and Lenoir-Rhyne. He began his coaching career at Winthrop, where he also earned a master of arts degree in 1998.
Lundy is married to Suzanne and the couple has five children: Grace, Ian, Kellen, Alec and Liam.

We still need an experienced associate head coach, or whatever they want to call it, who can successfully recruit Wisconsin and the upper Midwest. At least with this relatively early hiring, pickings may be better sooner than later. The early hiring may help with retaining some existing key players.
