This clearly was devised as an opportunity for PBJ to play before a national audience and have ESPN NBA insider Mike Schmitz appear and evaluate his game and draft prospects for five minutes. It could also have been an attempt to prevent going head-to-head with the Badgers in the B1G title game tomorrow night. People threw a hissy fit when MKE was originally scheduled to play during a NFC title game that eventually featured the Packers in Lavall’s year. I don’t blame them for playing early enough to avoid another issue. |

Maryland and Mark Turgeon just “mutually parted ways.” Right now. During the season. Such things can be done. (And can also be done at other positions.) Such things can be done and are, at relevant programs. Here, there is very little relevance and therefore no pressure for such things to happen. Everyone who was buffalo'd into buying season tickets this year needs to be there and be pissed off. PBS should be booed off the floor at every home game. |

is anyone suggesting AB get dismissed and bought out of her contract? while that'd be that day... as bbfran describes it (and seems to fit the situation exactly), AB is the perfect athletic director for a university bent on give 2 f's about sports, esp. revenue and enrollment boosting sports. why would anyone in charge of anything at UWM want to disrupt the status quo and (heaven forbid) reconsider the uni's commitment (translates as "budget" to them) to the long-term success of men's hoops?
i don't think we will see AB go anywhere for a long, long time. i hope i'm wrong. or that she reconsiders her animosity toward MBB. it takes a village and a culture. but if us having success this season means job security for her or coach Baldwin, i'll take the success now. ain't gonna be another season like this one.

Simms, VBJ, Lathon, Kane off the bench? we have to stop experimenting with our rotation at some point. i'm still very optimistic about the team's ability to turn this around. last night showed a team that can get out to a lead. now we just need to learn how to maintain big leads.

oh, so ppl want to fire Coach Baldwin 1/4th of the way into a season after we almost broke a losing streak? C'mon this isn't pro sports. and we aren't Maryland. that would be great press for us!
if pbj continues to sit out and any "okeedoke"-ness actually emerges, i'll reconsider my stance. but right now my stance is, let's get healthy and win- all the way to winning the HLT. then all things will resolve as they should.

I don’t like PBS as coach either, and I’ve probably been as outspoken against him as anyone. Having said that, there is no point to firing him right now. One of PBS’ assistant coaches would take over as interim head coach for the year and we’d still be looking to hire someone else after this year. And there would be virtually 0 chance of PBJ playing for MKE again. He may look like a bust so far, but he’s probably still likely to be the most exciting Panther to watch this year.
Having said that, voicing our displeasure by booing when PBS is announced as head coach or when RMU inevitably goes on a 15-0 run while MKE misses seven consecutive three pointers (with two being airballs) while on national TV… it might have more impact that staying home.

I don’t blame them for playing early enough to avoid another issue. Actually if that was the plan they just walked into another conflict since they are now head to head with Wisconsin/Marquette. Of course, on the bright side, if PBJ isn’t playing we may set the record for least watched basketball game in ESPNU history. Those titanic Horizon League second division matchups will do that. Most likely they actually selected a Saturday morning for the tip-off to try to get the kiddie brigades in from local grade schools and sports leagues to make noise. So if you’re going, enjoy that. Think I’ll stay home and watch some actual college basketball instead, although as a charter member of the Society of UWM fans Disguised as Empty Seats, well, it’s possible I might be there and you’ll never know it. 😉 |
