you beat me to Kareem, skrap.
But how about Vin Baker Sr.? Wait, we already have his kid. No need.
I know! Could we lure Showalter from Dominican? I mean he's practically right down the street.
Or maybe it's time for Bo to come out of retirement!
P.S. Anyone who seriously thinks Shay as a candidate is any less of a joke than any of the above must also be assuming that we will have a new athletic director.

Enlighten me why Shay wouldn’t be a legitimate candidate?

Let me throw out a wild suggestion: ANYONE with a proven track record of sustained success at a lower level.

Let me throw out a wild suggestion: ANYONE with a proven track record of sustained success at a lower level. Yes. I would more specifically say anyone with a proven track record of sustained HEAD COACHING success at ANY COLLEGIATE level, including but not limited to D1. It would be frustrating to be in that position now though, as anyone new would get off to such a late start. That same thing put the current head coach in a big hole from the start.

Sounds to me like Fran is implying that the choice of a candidate of Shay's quality could only be the work of a higher quality AD than we currently have.

My comments on coaching candidates are strictly my opinions, so you sensitive souls can unbundle your panties now. They are, however, fact based opinions. So I guess your knickers just re-tightened. When the time comes I'm with dylan. Find someone with proven success as a collegiate head coach. It would help greatly if they also had proven success recruiting Wisconsin and the midwest. The absurdity of our recruiting from southern Jucos should be obvious to everyone. Further, find someone with NO previous affiliation with UWM or our AD. It's time to wipe the slate clean. The last five years have ripped a hole in our fan base so large that there are only a few of us left who care in the slightest about this program. Let's not cause even more erosion by again hiring someone who will immediately alienate some of the remaining few who are left by their past associations.

How about Tom Billeter?!

I will be the first to say that I’m a firm believer everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. I’m only asking if you’d be open to sharing that opinion. Regardless of what it is I respect someone’s opinion whether I agree or disagree. I would hope others would say the same for mine.

His public record is available to everyone. I respect your opinion too, but I believe bringing a Pearl acolyte back would cause as much alienation and irritation among some of our straggling few remaining fans or potential donors as hiring one of Jeter's assistants or hiring another assistant from Wisconsin's staff would do.
We need to look for a proven, successful head coach without any of that baggage so we can all move forward together. As for the AD, that's a whole different problem.

Joah Tucker, Adrian Tigert and Chris Hill were recruited by B.P. and his staff?!
Give me the head coach with the proven track record, history of successfully recruiting Wisconsin and the upper Midwest and the call for unity anytime.

jmartin, I really don't know what has you so exercised about me other than that you clearly disagree with me. But let's be clear about something, opinions have no inherent right to equal weight. The free sharing of opinions, such as on a message board like this, is the fuel for the marketplace of ideas. But as with every marketplace, we have the right and in fact we should have the obligation to discriminate among those ideas, just as we sort through the apple bin for the ones that look red and shiny, and avoid those with the wormholes.
So we all have the right to state our opinions, but once stated, those opinions should be measured, weighed, accepted or rejected. Mine certainly are, and that's fine with me. If you don't want your opinions to be subjected to that scrutiny, you have no obligation to state them.

To paraphrase Senator Bentsen, I knew J. Martin. You are no J. Martin. Actually, since you just registered (under this name, at least) yesterday, I begin to wonder who you really are.
By the way, “I know you are but what am I?” is not really a persuasive rejoinder.
