Escobar homers to put the Crew up 9-5 in the 9th! Suter instead of Hader since it's not a save situation. According to the radio announcers, the Brewer bullpen hasn't recorded a save since July 8th, a stretch of 15 games in which the Crew is 9-6. The Crew is now 33-18 on the road this season (a winning percentage of .647). At home, the Crew is 29-24.

So which pitchers get sent down to Nashville when the two new acquisitions join the club today? Cousins and Gustave have yet to give up a run in 21+ combined innings. Sanchez has given up only 2 runs in 14+ innings. Lauer has been very good as a 5/6 starter. I believe those are the only four potential candidates with options left. Or do they "find" an injury to give another pitcher a mid-season break?
This is a good problem to have. For now, gone are the days of having a Joe Winkelsas go back and forth (or Perdomo, Weigel, Bettinger, etc)!

So the answer is...the two excess relief pitchers plus one more are placed on the IL because of Covid. Two of them are positive with symptoms and one because of contact tracing. How ironic - just when roster moves are necessary.
Let's hope the positive tests and contacts end here. I'm concerned about the adverse effect further spreading could have on the ability of the team to be competitive in the next several days.
On a more global front, this and the other rising Covid IL stints throughout MLB show just how much more contagious the Delta variant is.

It's so refreshing (and promising) to have the ability to win games in all kinds of ways.

It's so refreshing (and promising) to have the ability to win games in all kinds of ways. But more nerve-wracking than winning by four runs

The minor league trade to re-acquire reliever John Axford today further shows how Stearns and Arnold continue to try to stay ahead of injury and Covid challenges.
We are so fortunate to have arguably the best management in all of organized sports.

7-10 days(?). Who's next? With contact tracing, the whole team?
The Nashville Sounds may soon be playing at a ballpark near you!
