Let's hope we don't get a D2 school like a few years back. We all know how that went. It has crossed my mind that UWM hasn’t scheduled a Division 2 opponent since that debacle. Their non Division I opponents the past two years have been lower level D-3 programs (Concordia WI and Wisconsin Lutheran the last two years). I’m not sure if that is by design and they are scheduling out of fear of losing to a D-2 opponent, but it has admittedly crossed my mind. Having said that, Southern Miss is a good get and I love those round robins at home. It’s a weekend full of basketball at the Arena! Hopefully the season will be going on as scheduled for that.

I'm assuming they'll have to have either a D2 or D3 school for cost purposes. It's been a few years since they've played Judson and Parkside so I wouldn't be surprised if either are invited.

I don’t totally understand the rationale behind these MTEs, but I think there’s usually a game against a non-D1 outside of the round robin itself. I think it was La Crosse last time Milwaukee hosted a round robin tournament. I’m hoping the 4 teams in the actual round robin are D1.

I'm nearly certain that it was Concordia St. Paul, Florida International and Elon the last time we hosted. Perhaps this time it will be Parkside, Southern Miss and Chicago State?

I suppose it’s often less traveling, so that may have something to do with it, but as i mentioned, I think Southern Miss and the two other teams would be allowed to add a non D-1 team to their schedule as part of the MTE too.

Yes, you are correct that they were the three teams in the round robin last time, but I think Milwaukee got a 4th game (on paper) against La Crosse as part of the MTE last time. I’m guessing (or maybe just hoping) CSP was added last time because another team dropped out late in the process. It was just bizarre that a non-D1 was invited to a round robin like this last time, and I don’t think it’s the norm outside of a few exceptions (Chaminade comes to mind)

All joking aside, hopefully with a Conference USA team, albeit a bad one already in the tournament we can attract a couple other decent programs. I'm not holding my breath though..

Nice, the MVC! Should be more with HL and MVC. Local wise, works out great. Opens more doors for recruiting in Illinois. Also, by the date, this would be the homecoming match up.

So the two unknown opponents in our MTE will complete the schedule. 50/50 chance that we'll play no non-D1s this season.
