Can you be Division 1 in sports like soccer and softball and be Division 3 in basketball? No

Can you be Division 1 in sports like soccer and softball and be Division 3 in basketball? You need to have a minimum number of sports teams to be D1.

You also can't be split division except in cases where you're grandfathered in, which wouldn't apply here.
GB's new chancellor started 2 weeks ago. If I had to guess, an AD who didn't hire Darner went to a chancellor who didn't oversee Darner's hire and asked if they could make the move.

They did "Wish him the best in his future endeavors". Man, that buzz phrase needs to go at some point... How about this? "I wish you good fortune in the wars to come"

You also can't be split division except in cases where you're grandfathered in This must be a relatively new rule, because Dallas Baptist is D-II in all sports except for its baseball program, which has been in Division I since 2004.

I stand corrected, you can do that...but not the opposite.
It's just a really dumb idea that severely limits an AD's money making abilities

Putting aside any speculation about what this move says about the long term plans for the GB athletics program, who in the world are they going to hire with what they can pay who would actually be a better coach than Darner, especially since they will basically be starting over?
Spoiler alert: Tony Bennett isn’t interested.
Not that we have much of a rivalry with anyone any more given the smoldering dumpster fire that is all that remains of our own hoops program, but it’s still kind of sad to see GB basically giving up.

The more I hear about this story, the more it sounds a lot like the Amanda Braun/Rob Jeter situation from about four years ago.
Maybe Green Bay saw how well that worked for Milwaukee, with our two non last place finishes in the last four years, and they got jealous.
(I apologize if there is a sarcasm font that I should be using here... I am not aware of one for this message board).

Came on the board, I had no clue about this breaking news. What program fires their head coach on May 17th? Is there smoke on this raining day. Maybe Amanda Braun left a sleeper agent in place when she left.

Still no smoking gun and still no new hire four days later. So that would seem to rule out wrongdoing, job performance and having the perfect candidate waiting in the wings (for $175,000 or less; I'll bet Grzesk will get this after a "national search"). What on Earth could this all be about?

Their new chancellor started on the first. AD who didn't hire Darner went to the chancellor who didn't oversee his hiring and asked to make a change.

Mike Magpayo replace David Patrick who took the associate head coaching gig at Arkansas on July 1 after two seasons at UC-Riverside. He led the team to just its second winning campaign since it joined Division I for the 2001-02 season. The Highlanders opted for continuity by promoting associate head coach Mike Magpayo.
