Interesting. A stray thought: if a restaurant is going to close, does it need a chef?

Interesting. A stray thought: if a restaurant is going to close, does it need a chef? I posted an article within the last year or two that GB’s basketball team has to take a bus from GB to O’Hare for most non-regional buy games or tournaments. Given the school’s budget restrictions from the last few years and the financial impact of the pandemic, declining league revenues and their financial position being in the lower tier of the league already, it’s not going to be a huge surprise if they drop down.

Doesn't add up if you are getting out of D1. You don't fire your basketball staff, with other sports not being touched.

Agree with 'Holic and Fran. Sounds to me like they're on their way out of D-1.

I really don't like where this is all trending for the midmajor programs. At all.

If Green Bay was moving out of D1, you would not hulmated your head coach of the flagship program. Also, if your moving down to D2/D3 why fire the coach! Let the contract to run out. Why have other coaches in the other sports not been let go.

Sorry, fellas. If there's no smoking gun produced -- and the coaching staff says that it was "blindsided" by the move -- this points to one thing and one thing only. After all, who in the world are you going to get to coach a Division 1 team for much less than the $230,000 Darner was making? Why was the move made now and not two months ago? Why wasn't anyone from the current staff kept as a transitional person (as is common practice)? There are just way too many holes.

Not sure who Green Bay will find. Maybe, Green Bay has found something on the staff and this is their way out. Maybe the new chancellor and kind of new athletic director just wanted to hire their guy. Maybe this decision had been made for weeks and they were just waiting on the new chancellor to sign off on it?This just doesn't seem like the first step you do, if you are moving out out D1. The Horizon League would have been notified.

Obviously both sides keeping mum. Something happened and will at some point come out at least through the rumor mill. Just noticed statement from the admin which made it a point to emphasize their continued commitment to D 1 across all sports, ie, vote of confidence (kiss of death?) .Who knows. weird times and nothing would surprise me. Does not feel like that though.

Can you be Division 1 in sports like soccer and softball and be Division 3 in basketball? Again, who are they going to get that's better than Darner (92-80, four top-3 league finishes, strong recruiting history) for $180,000? Something stinks!

They did "Wish him the best in his future endeavors". Man, that buzz phrase needs to go at some point...
