The Carousel goes on without suspension or cancellation.
GCU's Dan Majerle was fired today after a 13-17 season, the first and only losing season in his seven years at the helm.
This program is serious about winning. It will be interesting to see who Jerry Colangelo can convince to lead the program.

It sure sounds like it's set up for Pitino Sr. to go to GCU!

On 2/14/18:
“I think it’s the best job in the country,” Majerle told Doug & Wolf on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station. “No, it’s true. Why would I leave? I work for Brian Mueller, President Mueller — who’s one of the most impressive people I’ve ever met in my life — Mr. Colangelo, a great bunch of kids, an unbelievable campus that is growing.
“We got one of the best student sections in all the country,” Majerle added. “I’d be crazy to leave. Plus, I haven’t done what I was supposed to do yet. They’ll probably fire me before I want to leave.”
How prophetic.

It sure sounds like it's set up for Pitino Sr. to go to GCU! I'd guess Marvin Menzies. Perhaps. Other speculation is for Phoenix area native Randy Bennett, the long-time head coach at St. Mary's. He has a great resume and little baggage, but is contracted through the 2025-26 season. I'd take him over other rumored candidates which include Menzies, Bryce Drew, Damon Stoudamire and Tim Miles. It's always best to go with a perennial winner.

It's always best to go with a perennial winner. GCU made a huge misstep by firing Majerle. He is a good coach that will likely end up getting a new job quickly. If GCU thinks Randy Bennett is coming through that door, they are delusional. Bennett would have far better options should he choose to leave St Mary’s , which I doubt he would.

Dan Majerle coached at GCU as a matter of convenience. He resides in the Phoenix area where he is a well known celebrity, commercial pitchman and owner of a sports bar/restaurant chain that bears his name. Having stated that, his fame could be fleeting and his restaurants could go under with so many others in the coming days.
He takes losing hard. This past season was very rough on him and that carried over to his players. I personally observed him at some home games sitting on the bench through much of the game looking totally frustrated and out of answers. He is not afraid to speak his mind whenever he wants, as if to suggest if his superiors do not like it, so be it.
He has been spoiled by his working conditions at GCU. I don't see him seeking a job at other mid-majors, most of which have considerably fewer resources and selling points than he had. I doubt high majors saw enough to hire him in another market.
I could be proven wrong, but would be quite surprised if he takes another college coaching job.
As for Bennett, I think you are underestimating the attraction of this particular job. It has more going for it than some of the less prominent high majors.
This is bound to be a weird off-season marked by changing life priorities. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the GCU hire shakes out.

As implied by my earlier posts, I was hoping for better.
"It begins with the mission of the University and the vibrant Christian atmosphere and how it's moved out beyond the campus into the surrounding neighborhoods and the city," Drew said. Apparently the religious angle entered into the hiring. No more cuss words in post game press conferences that occasionally slipped out from Majerle and likely made some GCU administrators cringe. This also suggests that hiring Rick Pitino was never seriously considered and only imagined by some so-called pundits.
Perhaps there will be an occasional Homer sighting around Camelback and 33rd Ave!
