Many are beating the HL like a dead horse. What I mean is, this league was still a one bid league 10 years ago. The Horizon has been one of the most successful non power conferences in the NCAA tournament the last 20 yrs. we’ve sent two teams quite a few years in that span. The HL, today, is a dead horse. That said, I would like us to stay and perennially be the “team to beat” , and maybe some day get to be the tide that raises all horizon ships. Wishful thinking.

Wasn't the last time the HL had an at-large bid, in 2003.

Wasn't the last time the HL had an at-large bid, in 2003. 2009. Cleveland State defeated Butler in the Horizon League Tournament final at Hinkle and both went to the tournament, with CSU defeating Wake Forest and Butler narrowly losing to LSU in the first round. CSU was seeded 13th and Butler was seeded 9th.

It also happened in 2007 when Wright State defeated No. 19 Butler in the Horizon League Tournament final at the Nutt House and both went to the NCAAs. Butler, a No. 5 seed, advanced to the Sweet 16, where it lost to eventual national champion Florida in Todd Lickliter's last game, and Wright State, a No. 14 seed, lost to Pitt.

My guess is that there's a two-way out. Someone's going to use it. I’m sorry I’m not buying the idea he’s got an “out” clause when he already can resign on his own if he wants to. Also, if PBJ goes to a Duke, what’s PBS going to do? He’s not getting an assistant job. If this is PBS’ only chance at being a head coach, is he really going to walk away from it to watch his son for one year?

OK.

I don't think Baldwin could get an assistant gig that pays more without the reason being delivering his son in recruiting And TBH there aren't a ton of assistants making over 400K...I don't think Duke or UK is going to hire one to land literally one 5-star when they're getting several every year as-is.

Honest question: isn't PBJ presently the No. 1-rated junior in the country? I hear they're paying top dollar for that!

Don’t think PBS is a terrible coach. Great coach? Not yet. Maybe never. Still not terrible. He has passion and desire. He has a good staff. Why is he terrible? Bad recruiter? Can’t motivate? What? Don’t tell me to look at his record he needs more time. Not many coaches win right away. Check out Wooden, Knight, and McGuire careers. One thing in common is they stayed in the same place for a long time. Passion and desire? That's your measuring stick? Good Lord! You could say that about any coach, at any school. Each of his 3 teams have regressed as the season has gone on. I haven't seen one player who has been molded into anything stellar or above and beyond what talent they came to campus with. This year's team, I would argue, has the record it has due to the natural talent on the roster. If they had a coach that could mold them into a unit, or a staff that could develop individual players, we'd have at least 5 more wins. What metrics do you base "he has a good staff" on, by the way? If he had a lead assistant with some head coaching experience, as opposed to some young no-name, I think that alone would help him immensely.

Michael Porter Sr. had 2 5-star sons (one who was the #1 recruit in the nation) and his contract was for 300k Cannen Cunningham (brother of #2 recruit Cade Cunningham) has a base salary of 125k at Oklahoma State I think the most likely way we lose Baldwin in an effort to get his kid's commitment is that we finish out the year well, perform better next year, Chris Collins tanks again and NU overlooks the record to bring their guy home a la Bo and LaVall

Tom Billeter now has been a head coach for 20 seasons and has won 20 or more games 11 times!!! Wow!!!

Baldwin might decide to resign so he can watch his son play at Duke or NU for his one year of college ball and try to separate himself from the Downer Dumpster Fire with the hope that he’ll be employable again down the line. Right now, who would hire him for any head coaching job above D2? Going into a contract year with no true prospect of significant improvement and given Braun’s history, he would be in a very precarious position. Better to resign than be fired, no matter the justification or lack thereof.

Well, last night virtually assures that this will be our fourth losing campaign in as many seasons. Compounding matters, we lose two of our four best players at the end of the year with no replacements in sight. Bluntly, it's hard to believe that PBS isn't looking for an escape hatch.

If it gets to the point that Baldwin is replaced, a certain state senator/mayoral candidate will do their best to dictate the field of coaching candidates.
