Game No. 90 of the Baldwin regime and "It's back to the drawing board" again. Is anyone else getting really irritated if not downright alarmed by this? And please don't tell me "It's just something that coaches say" ... because it isn't!!! Pictured: Patrick Baldwin, Mayor of the Drawing Board

But that's the point, Matt. There are no adjustments being made here. If it's not one thing beating us, it's another. This is what bad teams do. From one game to the next, we keep finding new ways to lose! Ya. Good point. While, I wouldn't call us bad. We are not a good team. Just average. Which our record would read as. Currently, out of 353 teams we're ranked 250 at realtimerpi, 251 on KenPom and 252 in the NET ratings. I'll let everyone draw their own conclusions.

I agree that we are very average in an average league. I don’t see anyone besides Lucas who would start on many of the other teams in the league. That surprises me given the Henderson hype going into the season. His play has improved but he is just too slow up and down the court. We need guys that can run the floor. Time to panic? They compete and are close. I guess it will come down to when close is good enough. It never is. The freshmen look tired and are easily taken out of the game with the refs quick whistles. Just an aside the ref who called Lucas for a travel was the same guy wiping out the Lucas game winner vs Western Michigan. Seeing this crew walk on the court gave me pause. They determine the outcome which I find a disturbing feature in most sports these days. Need two wins and I think we will have endured another average season.

If this were 10+ years ago, we'd be Youngstown State. Unfortunately there are about 7 Youngstown State teams in this conference today which makes us appear better than we are.

Can anyone help with identifying some of the Sweet 16 players? Who are the two guys standing between Ed and Al? My best guess is Rob and Nick.

Reflecting on last night's game, including the theme of the night, I think of what Tony Jones always talked about - that the players have to out-will the opponent. It is a certain confidence, trust and moxie that individual players have. It is passed along to the team as a whole. It starts with the head coach and trickles down to the players. It even carries over to the fans.
To me, this is what makes the most successful college basketball head coaches. It is what those responsible for selecting a head coach should look for anytime they are in position to hire.
This is a quality that winning programs generally have. It is what the Panthers of the glory years had. It is not something that the majority of teams have, including the post-glory year Panthers.
Does it eventually come under Pat Baldwin this season and and in subsequent ones? I hope so. I am concerned that teams he played and coached for in the past have not had sustained success, and that he may not have the referenced quality to pass down to his teams. Now that he has had more than two years to climb out of the hole he was placed in at the start and has all of his own players, we shall see.

My problem is PBS had a timeout to spend late. We are down 1 with about 25 seconds left and TeJon is walking the ball up and wasting clock. Why not go and try to score quick, so if we miss we get to foul and get another chance? There was no reason to take the clock down to last shot territory. Also, when TeJon "traveled", why not take a timeout and set something up? The in-game coaching of PBS has cost up multiple games this year and quite frankly, it's becoming more and more frustrating.
Other than that, it was nice to have a solid crowd that was in the game as well. If only we could get the students to not act like they are in a library or study hall. Not giving up on this team as they have enough talent to compete in this league, but the coaching deficiencies becomes more glaring each game it seems.

Baldwin talked about it in the postgame radio show. The part with 4 seconds left. He said, he would have to look at it for next time. Didn't want to call a timeout for Green Bay to set up it's defense. I can't disagree with that. I even heard Dan Dakich say the same thing in a game last night. The possision with 25 seconds left. We can split those hairs all day. I would not want this team to rush any shot. Maybe a timeout would have helped. Who knows, now. Remember, the change of in-game coaching got the Panthers a win versus Oakland in the late seconds.

How about INDIVIDUAL PLAYER introductions? Did they just put this together on the fly last night? EVERYONE up on the 300 section facing the Panther logo feels this way!!! I thought that as well. I don't know the 2005 players' thoughts on this, but I was also disappointed in the lack of individual recognition. It reeked of a poorly-planned cash grab. Instead of just planning for all of the halftime to be filled with the players, they double-booked it with the kids karate group, so they didn't have time for extending the 2005 team intros (as far as I can tell). I get that bringing in some big kids group and all of the parents that come with it is going to juice the attendance by 100 or whatever that works out to, and I understand running something like that pretty much every game. That said, this is the best team in Panthers history being honored, you only do this every 5 years or so, the Green Bay game draws well anyway, perhaps they could give some proper respect and take the whole "non-warmup" portion of halftime to individually recognize each player? It would seem they decided, "Nah, we need that +100 in attendance, double book it." This would seem to be another example of short-sightedness from the AD's office.

I'm fine with both. Many did enjoy the kids. As I did agree with. There was about 5 to 7 players. Would have taken another minute. Easy could have said their names. Crowd was amazing with most on their feet.
