Here are the shots that Flowers hit. Obviously our plan to not foul didn’t work. But I (personally) think it was the right call. My opinion is that this is mid-major basketball. They aren’t Duke. I’ll take my chances that one of those 3 don’t go in given the difficulty of those shots. Im not so sure the plan of fouling with 7 seconds left, having them hit 2 free throws, then having our guys go to the line to win the game would have been much better. We missed 19 free throws. Chances are Flowers would have had 4-5 seconds to hit a game winner.
Fact of the matter is you need to hit your free throws. I’m sure no one feels worse about the loss than Abrams having missed the chance to put us up by 4-5 at the end of regulation. And Lucas was robbed when he got called for the charge. Should have ended the game there.
Would have been a great win but it was an entertaining game at least. I’m hoping we respond with a beat down on Wisconsin Lutheran and then a win against UMKC.

Moving on a different topic for this team. I said this outloud last night. The roster is deeper. Six Panthers fouled out last night. Six! Still had a chance to win. That said, I thought Henderson and Mitchell would be more of a factor than they been. It's only two games in. I just did not like their body language when they entered.
Thoughts.

While there is some depth, it’s clear that Baldwin has a clear hierarchy. As I mentioned earlier, the only substitutions made in any of the overtimes were when players fouled out. Baldwin went with Amir Allen, TeJon Lucas, C.J. Wilbourn, Darius Roy, and Josh Thomas. DeAndre Abram only saw time because C.J. Wilbourn fouled out. Wil Sessoms only saw time because Amir Allen fouled out. Courtney Brown Jr. only saw time because TeJon Lucas fouled out. Harrison Henderson only saw time because Wil Sessoms fouled out. Arturro Bingham only saw time in overtime because DeAndre Abram fouled out (and saw < 1 minute in regulation). Shae Mitchell only saw time at all because Courtney Brown Jr. fouled out. Bobby Arthur-Williams didn’t play at all. As for the body language from Harrison Henderson and Shae Mitchell, I didn’t notice anything too much.

It seems like years since we had an unhijacked thread this long about a single game, and nothing but the game, from as many as 16 different posters. Way to go guys! Hopefully we can keep this up throughout the season.

Wow, where do I start. I agree with most posts in that the free throw shooting really hurt us. I will also be tough not having a consistent big man to lean on for rebounds, layups, etc. I was hoping Henderson would be better, but he's the slowest player I've ever seen. Courtney Brown Jr. is similar. They seem very timid...but maybe will improve as time goes on. That being said, I am very excited for the remainder of the season. Our backcourt is great. Te'jon is an absolute stud. Reminds me of Russell Westbrook, with more of an emphasis of passing. He is all over the place. May have led the team in rebounds on Saturday:). Darius Roy was good as expected. It really helped that he only had 1 or 2 fouls and could stay in the game. Josh Thomas definitely has potential as well. He seems very comfortable with the basketball, and not afraid to drive to the basket. Had a couple nice steals as well on Saturday. Lastly, the crowd was great. It's been a while since the student section was that full. Sounds like the Chips & Queso deal is over? but the Panther Band isn't giving up hope Looking forward to Tuesday!

Hopefully we can keep this up throughout the season. That is because one poster has not posted for months in any thread. Feels good to talk hoops.

Need to avoid the slow starts. Te'jon was a no show in the 1st half. The front line added nothing in the 1st half as well. Got it going with Amir Allen attacking the glass and Wil Sessoms will some key baskets. I hope to see a strong 40 minutes on Tuesday.

this is a learning experience that hopefully we'll learn from down the stretch. incidentally, when was the last time we played a 3 OT game? when was the last time we scored 110 points in a game?

I remember a few years back we scored like 125, but I think it was a D2 or D3 school if I remember correctly.

Seem to recall a game I attended in the early 2000's down at the UIC Pavilion. I remember Jason Frederick playing so can not recall if it was a Bo or Bruce coached team but seem to recall we won in 2, maybe 3 overtimes.

I recall listening to Duwayne Mosley doing the radio play by play, which takes the UIC multiple OT game back to the Ric Cobb era.

It was played at the Klotsche Center just a few days after we had beaten the Badgers!

I was thinking Bill Johnson replaced Duwayne Mosley at the start of Bo Ryan's stint, but your comment makes me think now it was when Bruce Pearl started.

From my upcoming game notes:
OT MADNESS If a triple overtime game for the Panthers sounds unusual, it’s because it is. It’s just the second game in the 121-year history of the program to get past a second overtime. The only one longer happened in January of 2001, a four-overtime thriller that saw UIC edge MKE, 112-106. In all, just 12 games have even made it to double-overtime, a number that represents just .005 percent of the over 2,655 games played since program’s inception.
MINUTES MONSTERS With it being just the second-ever game to even get past double-overtime in program history, one of the the most obvious records did get broken. The new mark for minutes played in a game belongs to Darius Roy, who logged 52 of the 55 on the evening. The former mark of 47 - held by three players (most recently Brock Stull in 2016) - was also eclipsed by Josh Thomas, who ended the night with 51.
POINTS PALOOZA The Panthers lit up the scoreboard against Western Michigan Nov. 9, eventually seeing their point total land at 110, the fifth-most points scored in a game in program history. The record? The 125 that Milwaukee put up against Judson back in December of 2015. The teams also combined for the most in a game in program history, with the 225 topping the 218 scored in a game between MKE (106) and UIC (112) in that four-OT epic back in January of 2001.
