My buddy tells me that they're going to try a 16-team playoff. Maybe do one-offs in the first round and best-of-3 in the second?!

i'd rather it be best of 3 for the first round, best of 5 for the second , best of 7 for the LCS and WS. that makes the most sense. NFL did something like that in 1982 when the season was only 9 games due to a strike . They had a 16 team tournament, Packers made it and actually got to the second round.

I just don't think that there will be nearly enough time, Nick. They can't possibly start an expanded postseason in late October as promised with anything close to a true format and wrap it up before Thanksgiving Day!

Well. yopu could sorta do it like college world series where you have an if necessary game. have game 1 be at the lowers seds place then game 2 at the higher seed with Game 3 starting after the conclusion of game 2. in other words a doubleheader if needed. Wave and indoor soccer have mini games like that in their playoffs,

So it looks like the playoffs will be 16 teams for this year and next, based on the proposals from both sides. We are now down to a 10 game gap (60 vs 70) so something like 65 games will probably be what they settle for. It goes without saying that this will be the shortest baseball season ever, and it's not even close

I am not in favor of expanded playoffs. Ten is more than enough. It devalues the regular season, regardless of length, and makes it too much like all of the other major professional sports leagues. Baseball is a game of endurance and should not be reliant on two or three strong starting pitchers.
It sounds like the NL will use the DH this year and next. That stinks. So much for the most interesting in-game strategy in all of sports.
I guess am just an old fuddy duddy traditionalist.

so MLb is imposing a 60 game season, with a 10 team playoff format. so we still have, at least for this season, the wildcard game. so in reality, all this back and forth since March, and achieved pretty much nothing, except piss off the fanbase of baseball and make it much more likely that negotiations for a CBa after the 2021 season.. are going to make the 1994 strike look peaceful by comparison.

Off the field, baseball is exhausting. On it, there's nothing like it!

I'll go big. 32 wins to make the playoffs. The Brewers will go 37-23. Let's go, Crew!
