Among life’s certainties are death, taxes, and the Milwaukee Panthers winning the Horizon League Women’s Soccer championship.
Milwaukee clinched at least a share of the regular season HL championship with a 3-0 win over IUPUI last night. If that score sounds familiar, it’s because that has also been the final score for the previous three league matches. The Panthers have now gone five-plus matches in league play without being scored on.

The win on Wednesday over NKU puts the Panthers at 7-0 in league play with two matches remaining: Sunday at Oakland and next Friday at home against Youngstown State.
A win in either match clinches the title outright, as the second place teams in the league, Wright State and UIC, already have two league losses. Each has lost to the Panthers, so Milwaukee would have a tie-breaker in the extremely unlikely event of a Panther collapse in the remaining matches. Oakland is 4-2-1, just behind WSU and UIC.

I forgot to take the possibility of a tie into account in my previous post, so of course today's match ended in a 0-0 tie after two overtimes.
The tie is as good as a win as far as clinching the title. The Panthers are now 7-0-1 with one league match remaining; the worst record they could have would be 7-1-1. Wright State lost on the road to IUPUI this afternoon, so they can't tie MIlwaukee. WSU is 5-3 with one match left. UIC plays at 4:00 p.m today. If they win today and in their last league match, the best they could do would be 7-2-0.

My apologies for highjacking the thread if it was intended to be for the Men's soccer team.
Having clinched the outright regular season title last time out, the Panther Women's Soccer team put an exclamation point on the title in the final regular season match, with a 4-0 victory over Youngstown State. The first half was scoreless, but the Panthers erupted for four goals in the second half.
As was observed at mkepanthers.com, Panther goalkeeper Elaina LaMacchia extended her scoreless run to 11 straight appearances and 995:51 straight scoreless minutes – on the verge of becoming just the seventh goalie in NCAA history to top the 1,000 plateau. So if she can avoid being scored on for the first four minutes and nine seconds of the tournament semi-final match, she'll get to 1,000 minutes.
The win also extended Milwaukee's unbeaten run in Horizon League regular-season play to 33 (30-0-3).
In the words of the philosopher, these ladies can play soccer a little bit...

Oakland and Northern Kentucky, the lower seeds, won quarterfinal matches on the road on Monday.
Last night, NKU played UIC in the first semifinal. UIC dominated the stats, but NKU's goalkeeper played a great game, keeping the Flames from scoring until the second overtime. UIC advanced to Saturday's fibal with the 1-0 win.
The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and won their semifinal 2-1. It was the first goal allowed by the Panthers at home in two months.

Having won the tournament title last weekend, defeating UIC 2-0, the women's soccer team is going dancing.
Their first match will be a challenge: they play 10th-ranked Wisconsin in Madison at 5:00 p.m. tonight.

The Panther Men's soccer team finished their season with a flourish, beating league-leader UIC in the last regular season match to secure a tournament bid, then winning their quarterfinal match, and then beating UIC again in the semi-finals, this time on penalty kicks. The Panthers took on Wright State in the finals, and played the Raiders to a 1-1 draw through regulation and two overtime periods. The match was then settled on penalty kicks. The Panthers lost on PKs, 3-2.

Anyone watching the men’s championship between MKE and NKU? This game is nuts. Might have some benches clearing before this one is over!
