Nothing new here. Just a columnist's perception on the current state of big-time collegiate athletics. With respect to all of the coaches in the same regional, she states: "Like Pearl, Houston’s Kelvin Sampson has a show cause penalty on his resume, punishment for hundreds of impermissible calls to recruits while he was at Indiana and Oklahoma. North Carolina has acknowledged that some of its athletes took sham classes, but dodged severe NCAA sanctions by saying it couldn’t be a violation because the bogus classes were available to all students, possibly the most novel defense ever for an institution of higher education. And while John Calipari hasn’t personally been tied to any violations, his Final Four appearances with UMass and Memphis were later vacated." The bottom line is Bruce Pearl provided by far the most exciting moments in UWM sports history. The positives far exceed the negatives.

Situational ethics. Cheating coaches are terrible! Unless they cheat for us. Then they’re heroes!!
I don’t subscribe.

Situational ethics. Cheating coaches are terrible! Unless they cheat for us. Then they’re heroes!! I don’t subscribe. And maybe selective memory on my part??? Seriously, I do not recall any proof of cheating that gave Pearl an unfair advantage while he was at UWM. If you do, please state it and provide the details. If it was (a) minor infraction(s) of some of those silly NCAA rules, that may or may not count as giving UWM an unfair advantage. I would like to know of anything that at least arguably gave the program an unfair advantage. When he was here and subsequently, I do recall several people not liking him because the recruiting incident while an assistant at Iowa involving Jimmy Collins and a personality that rubbed opposing fans the wrong way. Of course, none of this had anything to do with the success he generated at UWM. I am not asking this to oppose your viewpoint. I am asking to confirm or rule out whether I missed something along the way.

Has there ever been a sleazier slate of Sweet 16 games then tonight's? Calipari, royboy, K, Pearl, scuzz, Sampson, and LSU. Other than rooting for MSU against LSU, all you can hope for in the other three games is that the NCAA and the FBI have guys sitting behind the benches giving all those coaches the evil eye.

Incredible game between Purdue and Va. Why the hell did those two teams have to play each other? Today is truly an embarrassing slate of crooked coaches, sanctimonious cheats and, as John noted, reprehensibly irresponsible institutions.
As always, the NCAA tournament results send a blunt message to the college community: cheating works.

To think the Badgers could have had Tony Bennett. Ah well, just like most things with UW athletics, Gard is "good enough".

Auburn knocks out Kentucky, and I'm grinning ear to ear,. Cant stand Kentucky. now hoping MSU can beat the NBA team known as Duke, which has survived 2 close finishes where the opposing team shot themselves in the foot.
