horizonleague.org/news/2019/3/6/mens-basketball-horizon-league-summit-league-showdown-to-start-in-2020.aspxI know there has been talk for a while (maybe as long as Bracket Busters has been eliminated) that the Horizon League will participate in some kind of mid-major conference challenge. Given the scheduling troubles for mid-majors nowadays, and given the relative proximity and similarity of these two conferences, I'm surprised it took this long for a challenge like this to be set up, but in my opinion, it's nice to see this finally being set up. It will be nice to have two Division I opponents on the schedule set up each year, and more than likely, it will help the stronger teams in each conference get stronger opponents on their schedule.

This is long overdue and a step in the right direction, as long as it truly eliminates games against non-D1 opponents. Hopefully the HL does not stop with this. The Summit League has had a similar series with the WAC. Maybe the HL and the WAC could get together as well. Or the MVC. Or the MAC.

Guessing each team gets just one game? Each team gets a home and away game.

Guessing each team gets just one game? Each team gets a home and away game. I had to read it again. Can't believe I missed it. "Each member of the Horizon League and The Summit League will have a home and an away game against two different programs from the other league in each of those three seasons. The Summit League will find a school outside of its membership to be the 10th opponent for the Horizon League" So, who is the 10th school the Summit League will go after?

My guess is that the 10th team will change every year based on who wants a home and a road game against teams in these two conferences. If a team is designated as the 10th team throughout the run, I’d guess it would either be a team like Belmont who already has an association with the Horizon League or a lower level team like Chicago State that could use a home game against a mid major on their schedule. This is pure speculation though.

I’m glad the league is finally doing something to combat the scheduling issues. I’m disappointed it couldn’t be with the Valley since their challenge with the MWC is now over. I’m guessing the Valley had no interest in scheduling two games for every team. I wish they’d schedule one of the games in February as a bracketbuster-like matchup to help the top of the conferences. Hopefully it's something they’ll re-examine that in the future.

Will Northern Kentucky and/or Wright State be members of the Horizon League in 2020-21?

Great. Anything that takes a little pressure off scheduling and gives us a guaranteed home game every year is good in my book.

So is this a home and home with one Summit League team (2 games) or with two Summit teams (4 games)? Either way I like it

I think it's two games home and away with 2 different teams.
