Here's my point: if we were going to make the "big" move, why on earth didn't we go in a different direction? One that had been proven to work here! After all, there were plenty of terrific lower-division coaching candidates available!

At this point, I would be more than satisfied with our coach being labeled as a "fifth placer".

After all, there were plenty of terrific lower-division coaching candidates available! A question we've been asking since 2005. Maybe next time, whenever that may be.

At this point, I would be more than satisfied with our coach being labeled as a "fifth placer". 5th Place gives you a shot. 9th and 10th no longer do. LaVall had a shot with a 10th place team, and look what it got him... There's people who hold his single 11-24 season in higher regard than any Jeter team, simply because Jeter was the coach. This is the derangement we're dealing with.

Give Pat Baldwin another year or two. He could be great. With that said, I would gladly have Jeter back. In this crappy Horizon League, he would have us on top. I would say that Jeter was the perfect coach for our program - not good enough that he would go to another school, but good enough to have competitive teams. Any coach just slightly better than Jeter would likely not stay at UWM for very long. UWM will always be a case of "what ifs". It will always blow my mind that we passed on hiring Paul Plinske 20 times.

Wow, there is a ringing endorsement. Proves the whole point. If you do not dare to dream and think big you end up doing what happened right after Pearl left. Actually, Jeter was ready to bolt after his first year using all Pearls and Ryan's recruits. He was already talking to Iowa State, and have no doubt he would have been gone in a heartbeat. I bet they are glad they did not do the knee jerk thing Bud Haidet did. We ended up squandering a very unique opportunity to strike while the iron was hot and build on the tremendous buzz and momentum we had. We were even front page on USA Today sports page nationwide. WE DID NOT FOLLOW THE FORMULA and hire an experienced successful D2 or D3 coach but hired someone over his head, too young, unproven, qualifications mainly that his name was Jeter and he worked under Bo Ryan. Highest paid coach in conference, kept extending contract despite medicore results Hence , we achieved a D 1 record over an eleven year span ONE GAME OVER 500 in a horizon league albeit better than the one we are in now. Certainly, Jeter did not have a lot of help but pile on top of this the dumpster fire of an Athletic Dept, revolving AD's, the Geiger and Klotache debacle, the hire of Amanda Braun and her horrible disengenous way of handling Jeter's exit, the athletic ban right after the NCAA bid, lack of commitment from university admin, failure to hire Plinske, then circumventing Brauns intended hire of Ottzenberger.... talk about Sophie's choice, Jeter or Baldwin or Lavelle, choose none of them actually. Would I rather have Jeter;s results over what we have currently, yes but to be fair Baldwin has not been dealt any kind of hand like Jeter was coming off Pearl era. First year of his reign after using other coaches recruits he went 9-22 and I think that was much worse than Jordan or Baldwin's records in light of he was handed something that had momentum and a degree of credibility and tanked it. Long slow road in recovering and never really got there consistently and it turned stale. All of these things have led us to where we are now not just Braun but I strongly believe she has to go.

Another opportunity we squandered was wasting all these years and not being in a position which we really could have been like Loyola or Valpo to jump up a notch to MVC, not saying Butler like but you never know but now we are stuck in a conference with the likes of IUPUI, Youngstown State, Cleveland State, Oakland etc.....reap what you sow and we sowed a bunch of chaff on barren ground
