My friend, a fellow season ticket-holder, poses this question: does PBJ take up a scholarship? (I really wish that I had thought of this today!) Doug McDermott gave his up while playing for his dad, coaching at Creighton also pays a lot more than coaching at uwm though so who knows lol. Tuition also costs a lot more at Creighton

With the NIL coming into effect does anyone have any ballpark guesses on how much mula PBJ will get this upcoming season? I’m a little surprised it hasn’t been brought up yet so I’ll ballpark it by saying 6 figures.

It’s hard to imagine how any player for a college team with no following to speak of would get that kind of money in a market with the reigning NBA champs, an MLB team very likely to be playing in October, and, of course, the Packers. What merchant here is going to conclude that it’s PBJ who will increase their sales over all those other, far more famous and familiar athletes? I don’t know the NIL rules, but the only way I could see him getting that kind of dough would be some shoe company simply throwing cash at him to get him locked in just in case he sticks and stars in the NBA.

I tend to agree and would go further and say that the NIL benefits are more likely to be bigger when the player plays at a college that’s the only game in town. A player at Kentucky or Kansas, where there are no major sports teams, will tend to benefit more than a player at Villanova or St. John’s or Northwestern or UCLA. I don’t think it’s just a small school thing; a player at North Dakota or Wyoming or Southern Utah may be able to get deals that a similar player at Milwaukee, UIC, Cleveland State, Detroit, Robert Morris, IUPUI, or Northern Kentucky couldn’t dream of since these programs are 6th, 7th, 8th, or even lower in the area’s sports pecking order.

I do think we should pool some money together to get one of the walk-ons to endorse something awesome like this 1993 Chevy S-10. No particular reason why I chose that random vehicle.

I was asking so I could answer your question. If my options are PBS and his kid (who could get us to the tournament) or someone just like PBS who does not have a kid who can get us to the tournament, I'll take the first one. I'd prefer the result was Northwestern making a stupid Otzelberger-style hire...but if we're irrelevant in 2023 either way, screw it. Do you think his kid being on the roster is going to magically make him not absolutely suck as a coach? Are you kidding me? I once again point to Henry Ellenson's year at Marquette: 18 wins, no NCAA berth. That's the best you 'might' get. Hell, I don't think PBS is capable of 18 wins with Giannis, much less his kid. But that's just me. This post is aging well.

Dude, have a drink. This isn’t 2005 any more. PBJ is our best chance to get back to the Sweet 16. Take it or leave it. Not saying it’s going to happen if he commits. But I guarantee you it ain’t gonna happen if he doesn’t. There's the delusion again! Knock it off with the Sweet 16 talk. You're only setting yourself and those who buy that snake oil sales pitch up for a major disappointment. It ain't gonna happen with this coach. Not with his kid, not with Giannis, not with LeBron, and not with the 1992 Dream Team. The guy is a loser. He's lost everywhere he's been in 30 years as a player and coach, outside of as many seasons you can count on one hand. There's optimism, and there's stupidity. Thinking of Sweet 16s when a guy can't produce a winning record is stupid. I'm really not sorry if that offends you. This post is also aging well.

Somebody earlier mentioned he couldn't get to 18 wins with his kid. He had 16 with the empty husk of a program following two coaching changes and a bloodless civil war. Also the Horizon League is dog sh*t. And I'll leave it at this: if Pat Baldwin Sr. is such a total lost cause that it's not even worth seeing what could happen with his son, then how did his son get so damn good? 1. That "empty husk" of a program was coming off an inspiring conference tourney run, and that momentum carried them for the majority of Baldwin's first season. So many here take away 05-06 from Jeter. I take 17-18 from Baldwin. 2. The Horizon League has been dogsh*t for the entirety of Baldwin's tenure, and he's 26-45, including only 7 wins after January 24th. 3. If he's good enough to go to any blueblood program he wants to, and instead comes here, does that really lead you to believe he's as good as the hype? It doesn't lead me there. Not for a second. The apple can't fall far from the tree unless it LEAVES THE TREE. I know I'm pissing in you guys' Cheerios. I get it It's fun to dream. But there is a fine line between dreams and delusions of grandeur. Another good one!

[Quote/]Wait... now your argument is that Patrick Baldwin Jr. probably isn’t worth the hype? Because he might choose to play for his dad here? And you think I’m the one who’s delusional?? I've never bought the hype, and continue to not buy it. Anyone on this board who actually knows me knows that to be true. How many state championships has Sussex Hamilton won while he's been there? If he's the second coming like you all claim, the answer would be 4?, 3?, 2?... We all know what the actual number is. Reality is not delusion. [/quote] And another!

I hear SoB is wearing a tee shirt today with a smiley face and the phrase "I told you so" in big bold capital letters. We can only hope by March he will have to keep it buried deep in his drawer.

That's all we can do, really. Clearly the university administration doesn't give a f***. But hey - AB made the right hire for women's soccer.
