Pearl never did, so what's your point?

I checked back to 2002. In Pearl's four years we averaged 165th in the nation in free throw shooting. In Jeter's 11, we averaged a nearly identical 167th, but that was heavily influenced by the fact that his last three years featured teams that were by FAR our best free throw shooting teams in the modern era, finishing 59th ('13-'14), 41st ('15) and a superb 5th ('16). So what was his avg ranking in the first 8 years since those last 3 years clearly lowered his ranking TO 167th?

I've looked at the FT stats from last year's team & this year's team and hear are some observations:
Stull has dropped 7% since last season. He was 71-88 (80.9%) then and 53-72 (73.6%) currently.
Jeremy Johnson's stats have wildly skewed our % as he was 44-52 (84.6%) last year to 3-6 (50%) this year.
Two good notes - Bell's stats have dramatically improved as he was 42-69 (60.9%) last year to 54-71 (76.1%) this season. Prahl's stats have increased 10% - 39-63 (61.9%) last year & 37-52 (71.2%) this year

Pearl never did, so what's your point? My point is based on your premise about the impact of a coach's recruiting on his team's free throw shooting percentage, which I agree with, and the free throw shooting percentage rankings you reported. Pearl recruited, coached and motivated so well that a free throw shooting percentage at the D1 median was acceptable. In future seasons, if Baldwin and/or his successors could recruit, coach and motivate as well as Pearl and the team's free throw shooting percentage would be ranked 165, I think most of us would take it in a heartbeat. In Jeter's first eight years, his teams ranked probably around what, 200? While not nearly as bad as it has been these past two seasons, if one is going to give Jeter credit for recruiting good free throw shooters in his last three years, one should also criticize him for recruiting relatively poor free throw shooters in his first eight years (or more accurately, years 2-8). It is not fair to expect Baldwin, Jeter or anyone else to recruit, coach and motivate Panther players as well as Pearl. This can be compensated, in part, by recruiting players who shoot free throws such that collectively, the team free throw shooting percentage ranks much better than approximately 200. Thus, as I stated, let's hope the ranking of Baldwin's Panther-coached teams is much better than 200 in future seasons.
