Not a complete surprise: mkepanthers.com/news/2017/8/14/womens-soccer-panthers-top-horizon-league-preseason-poll.aspx?path=wsocInteresting that instead of being picked to win outright, the Panthers are picked to share the title with NKU. Also interesting that IUPUI is picked to finish seventh in their first season of league play, ahead of Youngstown State, Cleveland State, and Green Bay. The Panthers being picked to finish at the top is understandable on the returning players alone. Most of the key contributors are back.

Big win tonight against a nationally ranked Marquette team, 2-1.
The only downside is that Marquette scored the first goal that Milwaukee has allowed this season, ending goalie Mallory Geurts's program-record scoreless streak at 917 minutes plus, which is number nine in NCAA D1 history.
The Panthers are off to a program record 9-0-1 start on the season, as they finish non-league play and resume league play on the road at UIC next Saturday. Milwaukee is 1-0-0 in league play so far, and UIC is 0-1-0.

With two matches left going into today, Milwaukee (5-0-2 in league play) was in third place behind Northern Kentucky (6-0-1) and IUPUI (6-1-0). The Panthers tied the Norse and beat the Jaguars in head-to-head play; the Norse and the Jaguars will meet in the season finale in Indianapolis.
Despite having the only unbeaten record in D1 Women’s Soccer, Milwaukee’s two ties in league play were working against their regular season title hopes. A tie (one point in the standings) is better than a loss, but a win (three points) is best of all. Milwaukee can finish at 7-0-2 at best. Both NKU and IUPUI could have reached seven wins in play today.
IUPUI suffered a setback when they lost today at Oakland. NKU hosted and lost to Cleveland State tonight. NKU is now in second place at 6-1-1, and IUPUI is in third at 6-2-0.
Milwaukee hosted Youngstown State today, and needed overtime to get a 2-1 win. (Oddly enough, all three goals were scored early: Milwaukee went up 1-0 in the second minute of the first half, YSU tied the score in the second minute of the second half, and the game winner for the Panthers came in the third minute of OT.) The Panthers are 6-0-2 and now in first place. They travel to Cleveland to finish the regular season on Friday.
A Panther victory in Cleveland will clinch another regular season title outright. A tie or a loss against CSU would mean that the outcome of NKU-IUPUI match would determine where Milwaukee finishes in top three seeds.

Panthers lose on PK. Outshot IUPUI 33-9. This is why the sport of soccer is the stupidest out there. PK to award a championship.

Panthers lose on PK. Outshot IUPUI 33-9. This is why the sport of soccer is the stupidest out there. PK to award a championship. The Panthers could have avoided PKs altogether if they had gotten one more of those 33 shots to go in. It was pretty much this way the whole season: the Panthers had many more shots (and shots-on-goal) than their opponents. In most matches, they also outscored their opponents. But they couldn't outscore four of their opponents, and the last instance of this was in a championship match, where a draw is not an option. Give IUPUI, and their goalkeeper in particular, credit. They played good enough defense to keep the Panthers from winning, and then held on in PKs. i was wondering why IUPUI's goalkeeper was selected as the POTY in her position over the Panthers' Mallory Geurts, as Guerts had a much lower goals-against average and more shut-outs. The PKs showed that the IUPUI keeper was just a little better when it counted most. So this makes two consecutive years the Panthers have lost in the championship match at home. i guess Amanda Braun should fire Troy Fabiano
