mkepanthers.com/news/2017/6/16/womens-basketball-bre-cera-transfers-to-milwaukee.aspxPlayed extensively her freshman year at Iowa. Will sit out the 17-18 season and will have three years of eligibility. Update: After reading the mkepanthers.com article more thoroughly, this looks like an impressive get. Her HS resume was enough to get her a scholarship at a B10 school...not the highest-ranked program, but a B10 School nonetheless. She turned in a decent freshman season at Iowa: played in all but three games and started 18. Iowa's loss is Milwaukee's gain.

After dropping the first two games of the pre-season WNIT, Milwaukee has now won three straight.
They have won with defense, which is what Coach Rechliz wants especially to be a strength. They have won by closing down the opposition’s offense late in games. They were competitive in their first game, on the road against Drake, staying close for most of the game against a team which made the NCAA tournament last year. The Panthers were close for most of the second WNIT game, having to resort to fouling Houston, which allowed the Cougars to pull away and win by 15 points.
The Panthers then held their next two opponents to 50 and then 41 points. This afternoon the Panthers faced another challenge, playing a Weatern Illinois team that won 26 games last season and made the NCAA Tournament after winning the Summit League title. WIU returned all five starters this season. The final score, a 77-67 victory, does not tell the whole story of the game. After WIU went up by 13 points midway through the third quarter, 55-42, the Panther defense limited them to 12 points the rest of the way, and Milwaukee out-scored WIU by 35-12 to erase the deficit and win by double digits. The Panthers won the final quarter 18-6.
Jenny Lindner accounted for almost half of Milwaukee’s point total with a career-high 34 points. 21 of those points came in the second half. Steph Kostowicz contributed 16 points and Jamie Reit 10.
The Panthers return home to play a North Dakota State team who is off to a 5-1 start, already almost equalling their wins total for last season, on Friday night.
As a result of her performances against Loyola (12 points) and WIU, Lindner was named POTY for Horizon League Women's Basketball, the fourth such honor in her career.

Last season North Dakota State's women's basketball team won six games all season. Going into tonight's game against the Panthers, they had already won five. They will probably win more games this season than last, but the Panthers were not going to give up the sixth win tonight.
The Panthers had one of those nights, and won by 36 points at 74-38. 13 players were in uniform for the Panthers tonight. All 13 played. All but one scored. No Panther had more than 13 points, but since no one from NDSU got into double figures, that wasn't an issue. The Bison had a height advantage, but the Panthers outplayed them: Milwaukee out-rebounded NDSU 53-28 (16-5 in offensive rebounds), and outscored the Bison 28-14 in the paint. The Panthers forced 15 NDSU turnovers and scored 17 points off them; Milwaukee had 11 turnovers and gave up 11 points off them.
Milwaukee got off to a slow start, but heated up late in the first quarter, scoring the last seven points of the quarter to lead 14-12. The second quarter was a different story. The Panthers continued their run, scoring the 10 points of the quarter before the Bison got their first basket, and outscoring NDSU 16-2 the rest of the way to extend the halftime lead to 40-16. The third quarter was a little more even. NDSU scored more points in the quarter than they did in the entire first half, and outscored the Panthers 18-16., but the Panther lead after the quarter was still 22 points. The Panthers put the game even further out of doubt by scoring the first 14 points of the fourth quarter, and outscoring NDSU 18-4 for the quarter, for the final margin. which ranks in the top five in program history. The 38 points given up is also a top-five performance.
Some of the NDSU woes (they shot 29% from the field, and that figure was pulled up slightly by shooting 31% from distance) is attributable to travel: they've played away from home a lot, and two nights ago were in Colorado (getting shellacked by the Buffaloes). But the Panthers performance gives some good hints about what this team can be like at their best.

One reason i was reminding myself not to be too giddy about the Panthers latest win was that their next five games includes two Big Ten teams and Marquette.
That stretch began today with a trip to Evanston, IL, to play Northwestern. The Panthers have made the trip several times in the past several years, without success. Their last win over the Wildcats was 11 years ago. That string ended today, with Milwaukee pulling away late to win 66-57. The Panthers have now won five consecutive games.
Milwaukee was led by Bailey Farley with 24 points and Steph Kostowicz with 20. Kostowicz had another double-double with 12 rebounds.
Next up for the Panthers is a Thursday home game against a 3-3 Illinois State team. Illinois State has already played two other Horizon League teams, losing by 21 to Oakland and beating Northern Kentucky by 12. The Redbirds also have Cleveland State on the schedule.

The picture on the preview of the Northwestern game at mkepanthers.com was of Bailey Farley. Who was, as previously noted, the Panthers’ leading scorer in the game.
So did someone predict her performance, or did she go off for 24 points because they used her picture?

i watched the Illinois State game live, and was underwhelmed. i watched the game again, after reading how well Illinois State plays defense, and came away more impressed with the win.
The Panthers have now won six straight. They did not shoot well against the Redbirds, but Illinois State is rated in the top ten in multiple defensive categories. The Panthers played decent defense, and made some adjustments after halftime and got better offensively.
Bailey Farley led all scorers with 19 points. Her five made three-pointers were most of the Panthers’ scoring from beyond the arc. Early the Panthers seemed to settle for long shots, and they weren’t hitting. Steph Kostowicz had another double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jamie Reit added 11 points.
The Panthers play next against Fort Wayne (2-6) this afternoon.

Big game in 30 minutes for the women, as they go for their 8th straight win, and 2nd in a row win over Bucky. This team is already up to #67 of 349 in the RPI rankings, and with wins in these next to games (over UW & MU), they'll be positioned for a possible NCAA at-large berth if they do well enough in the HL (GB is currently RPI #5 in the country, which helps a ton). Crazy what a great job coach Kyle and company has done with this program. The game is at 7pm and can be watched for free on the BTN2go app. mkepanthers.com/news/2017/12/13/womens-basketball-panthers-badgers-square-off-thursday-in-madison.aspx
