The Milwaukee Elite Camp was held yesterday at UWM by Lavall Jordan and the coaching staff geared at high school players that believe they have the talent to play at the collegiate level. Many schools do this now and "invite' prospective recruits to participate as it give the coaches an opportunity to interact with the players more closely and also serves as an unofficial visit for prospective recruits to meet the staff and see the campus. www.lavalljordanbasketballcamps.com/college-practice-camp.cfm

Koreem Ozier (Racine Case) was at the camp and tweeted a picture of him and Omar Lowery. Said he's looking forward to his visit in August.
I'm not just saying this because I went to Case, but this kid is a stud. So good at attacking the rim and can finish.
Right now only has an offer from Sam Houston State but just visited Western Illinois. I wouldn't be surprised to see Shariff go after him at Wright State in the near future too. He's got a good relationship with him.

I'm guessing these elite camps were not done with the old coaching staff. The 'regular' camp that Jeter's staff ran was cheaper and still had all their recruiting targets. Kyle Kelm was a player who committed partly due to attending every year. The problem with camps in general at Milwaukee is that you expose recruits to our practice situation. Do we want these kids to come play here? Absolutely. But you see it in a couple releases where they attend our camp and then the other schools' camps are listed. It exposes them to the coaching staff - which was a positive both with the previous and current regimes - but it also shows them the facilities, and we all know the problems we have there. It can hurt recruiting to say "here's where you'll practice for four years" and then have them go to other schools and see superior facilities. Former coaches like Bruce Pearl and Sandy Botham wouldn't even show most recruits the Klotsche arena. Pearl would focus on the Panther Arena, as has Jordan's staff thus far (see Saddler pics). That's a good recruiting facility, especially now with all the changes the Arena has gone through and is lined up to add. I'm glad Jenny Gryniewicz was able to raise the money to make up for the donations lost to update the locker room facilities. We'd be so lost without her. The biggest victory we can give LaVall Jordan off the court (besides giving him a new boss, but let's not talk about that please) is getting the practice facility front money approved in the next budget round. I don't know about you, but I don't want to wait until 2023 for the project to be fully funded by the student segregated fee. We could see two new coaching staffs beyond Jordan's guys before the new facility would be finished. That would suck. We're going to need a posse. So make sure you call your state representatives in the Assembly and Senate and make sure they know their constituents want that facility built. That moronic regent Tim Higgins wants to know why the program exists with $11 million of debt. The second shovels go into the ground for that facility, recruiting will take a big bump up. The university wants to spend $11 million or so. I think they should spend $20 million of that $25 million or so from the student fee, then any money raised over the top can make it better. If we really don't want to accept that Jeter was a good coach, then we sure as hell better be willing to spend the money to make his tenure forgettable. Because from where I stand, he's still one of the three best coaches in school history even if you don't want to admit it. We need to be better. And if we're not willing to spend more on the budget, we need to take the maximum advantage we can from building the practice facility. $11 million draws us up with the rest of the conference. $20 million (plus extra raised by the Foundation) puts us on par with Kansas State and right behind VCU in new practice facilities. That's for today, remember. You get what you pay for. We led the Horizon League in spending in exactly zero categories this past season. Jeter, with all benefits included, made considerably less than Gary Waters. Those are the public numbers; my guess is Valpo and Detroit probably paid Drew and McCallum more than their last public salaries, since they've both made NCAA tournaments since and private schools often hide other pay in separate areas so they don't have to report everything their coaches make. And that's just the coach's salary. Youngstown State spent $35k more in men's basketball recruiting in 2014-15 than we spent in recruiting for ALL MALE SPORTS. I'd know how our men's basketball number specifically compares to it if they actually gave me the numbers I asked for in my FOIA request rather than giving me balance sheets that don't break down numbers specifically. The other seven public schools had no problem whatsoever putting together the numbers I asked for - why? Because as it turns out, they have to itemize those numbers for the NCAA. I didn't know that until I got the open records from the Ohio schools, so I'm going to ask for those in a new request today. Maybe then I'll actually get the answers I'm seeking. I'll update once I have that. But UWM was also the slowest school to respond, so it might be awhile. They're under a mountain of requests in that office. I really feel bad for Julie Kipp, the custodian of public records. She's got a tough gig. Either way, we spent $63k recruiting for all of our men's sports programs in 2014-15. YSU spent $98k in men's basketball alone. That's not how you're going to make the team better. If we're not willing to spend more in hoops annually, then we better maximize every dollar we get in the facilities segregated fee.
