The Panthers lose to a very bad Chicago State team at home. Onson is taken out of the starting lineup, and HL First-Teamer Traci Edwards sits the entire game, despite averaging nearly a double-double (16.4 ppg, 8.6 rpg) for the season so far because Bothom says, "She hasn't been her consistent self for us. We need more out of her."
What the heck is going on over there?

seems to me that the players have been running the team and coach botham wants another title run, so it was time for change. or maybe it is the new coaches, again.

Sandy Botham has once again lost control of her team. She does it on an annual basis, it is just usually covered up well so that most do not notice. Her inconsistency can rattle the even the most strong-minded person. She needs to find some consistency and develop relationships with her players.
Maybe that would help. I still have faith the ladies will have a good year.

We're still waiting for her pre-game pep talk in Cleveland (March, 2005) to end so we can leave from the hotel for the game.

Why say she has once again lost control of her team?? Because she is making a point of showing the girls that being mediocre is not ok...just because Tracy leads the team in scoring doesn't mean she leads the team in work ethic...should she allow to be a slug on the floor just because she scores, can any of you honestly say that she should be scoring twice what she does if she would just put in the effort?? As for the asst coaches leaving, there have been poor choices in hires, as well as those moving on...there aren't a ton of people that would be happy living here making what they do, working as hard as they do before they decide it's time to try something else.

i agree with thought of pushing the players forward past being mediocre. why is it that a championship team, that did not loose much, feel it was okay to be this way and why let your "best" player settle as well (probally - lack of uperclassmen being leaders). as far as the coaches maybe they are overrated in their area of expertise. if not then they better buckle down and "Show me the money." to coin a phrase. fans want to see a postive product this year.

Last year at the Championship game in the HL tourney, I chatted with Traci's HS coach. He told me the Panthers would win if Traci decided it was worth putting in the effort.
Sandy's been a very successful coach. Her athletes respect and love her. I personally like her enthusiasm for UWM, the AD and her team. She's a class act and she deserves better than rips on a fan board

I never understood why some people who had so much talent in a given area would choose to not apply themselves it if thats all it took to be successfull. Either way that is Traci's choice and will hers to live with now and after her college years have passed.

Fellas, I just have to express my concern for the state of the women's basketball program. I don't mean to be alarmist, but last night we had a locally televised game on campus that was played in front of practically no one (the announced attendance was 130). Not even the band was there. This morning, I read that Sandy has suspended half the team -- all the juniors and seniors -- without any further explanation. Three years ago, all the assistant coaches and six players left the program. Earlier this season, Traci Edwards was suspended. This team is second in the league standings and seemingly the only team with a chance at challenging UWGB for conference supremacy. Anyone have any inside knowledge?

The players were suspended for breaking team rules (going out to the bars/drinking). Sandy obviously means business. Art Vandelay

the band is at EVERY game both men and women's games.
even if sandy suspended half the team, they still won by 10 with their "reserves" so i dont see it as a huge problem.

Yeah, the band was there, up to their usual awesomeness. Vastly underrated pep band.
I think the announced 310 attendance was about right...if you include coaches, players, officials, media, employees, faculty, and all the kids playing intramural basketball in the pavilion.
The girls broke a team rule. I'll send you a PM with details.
