I'll tell you guys something right now: we have played one hell of a schedule!
It's not like we're playing Grambling, Stetson, Prairie View, Savannah State, Presbyterian, Jackson State and Maine!

And our team has played an exceedingly difficult schedule, too. I don't want that to get lost.

The irony of Marquette's scheduling is that their performance in New York suggests they didn't need to subject their fans to the worst home schedule in their history. The majority of MUs season ticket holders are going to come dressed as empty seats until January, and not be happy about what they had to pay for the privilege.

Wisconsin's home schedule is equally laughable. Let's be fair to all in state teams.

Wisconsin's home schedule is equally laughable. Let's be fair to all in state teams. More often than not, if you take the Marquette and ACC game out of their schedule, we are their toughest home game.

Wisconsin's home schedule is equally laughable. Let's be fair to all in state teams. Just noticed this. While I absolutely believe that all high majors should be improving their schedules by playing more mid-majors (like us), the statement that MU's and UW's home schedules are "equally" laughable is about as wrong as a factual assertion could be. Taking away the arranged game with Iowa (part of the BT/BE challenge) Marquette plays 9 non-con home games. The current average power rating for those teams (using Pomeroy, simply because that's what I subscribe to) is 286. Take the game against Belmont out (a game arranged as part of a tournament they were in) and the remaining 8 teams -- the teams MU voluntarily scheduled -- have an average power rating of an astonishing 311! For Wisconsin, taking out the Marquette game, they play 8 non-con home games. Average power rating: 195. They don't have a home game in the ACC/BT challenge this year. (And if you take WIU out on the argument that the Leathernecks are punching above their weight class, the average is essentially unchanged -- 197.) The simple truth is that these schedules are entirely different in class. Wisconsin has 4 legitimate mid-majors on its home schedule (not including WIU). Marquette has 1 (Belmont). A very important reason UW's schedule is so dramatically better than MU's is what Jimmy noted: they play us. They also play GB at home this year. Marquette conversely decided it would be better to serve its fans a home schedule of pureed horse dung than to risk playing the other in-state D1 teams. I have talked to more than a few long-time MU season ticket holders who are disgusted with that schedule, as they should be. By the way -- ghostofdylan and I are waiting breathlessly for the JS's hard-hitting cub reporter to ask WOJO! about this scheduling mystery in the preview article for the GE's upcoming game against Our Lady of the Meek and Infirm.

Do you think MU scheduled in part because games vs Iowa and Belmont were on the schedule?
I'm curious what happens to the average if you remove Temple, who sits at 65 on kenpom.

"By the way -- ghostofdylan and I are waiting breathlessly for the JS's hard-hitting cub reporter to ask WOJO! about this scheduling mystery in the preview article for the GE's upcoming game against Our Lady of the Meek and Infirm. [/quote]" Congratulations to the JS's intrepid reporter! He asked WOJO! about MU's horse dung home schedule in his preview of their game today against The Down East Institute for the Athletically Inept! And then swallowed the BS response hook, line and sinker. Here's a tip for you, cub reporter -- any explanation for that god-awful schedule that does not contain the statement "because we were desperately afraid of how our fans would react to consecutive losing seasons and didn't want to risk playing any team with a pulse if we could possibly help it" is not true.

No need to schedule tough home games when you can just go win at the Kohl Center

If Marquette just had Milwaukee clearing its path against teams with a pulse it might have a good year.

Santa Clara loses to Gonzaga by 2 at home.

Saw that. While Santa Clara isn't exactly Villanova, it's certainly not a doormat either.
That was one challenging away schedule we played!
