I suppose that any school's departure from a league will leave the remaining members salty.
If you were Northern Kentucky, would you hold off for a year and hope that the league you're joining doesn't admit another program ... or just make the jump now? I hear that some leagues even bar the departing program from postseason events!
The problem isn't about to go away any time in the near future, so we may as well get used to it.

I hear NJIT is looking for a conference. Certainly not ideal for geography, but beggars can't be choosers (and both sides would be beggars in that merger).

the rumor i've heard is a MEAC school joining the A-Sun and NJIT joining the MEAC, neither of which make any sense to me

so this will mean a bigger conference schedule correct? and we'd go back to the top 2 get byes, everyone elss plays in round 1 set up. 3-10, 4-9, 5-8 6-7. basically it puts pressure on snagging one of those top 2 spots.

With the move to a neutral-site tournament, I'm not sure that will be the case at all.

In fact, I think it's very likely that this will be the format:
Tuesday -- 8 vs. 9 and 7 vs. 10 Friday -- Quarterfinals Saturday -- Semifinals Tuesday -- Finals

The format is staying the same this year. I sat down with Amanda and Bill Behrns last week on the neutral site. I'm willing to give it a try, although I'm still annoyed by the timing because I think the chances were pretty solid for a Milwaukee hosted tournament this year or next.

How does NJIT fit into an HBCU conference?

I'm willing to give it a try, although I'm still annoyed by the timing because I think the chances were pretty solid for a Milwaukee hosted tournament this year or next. I have been far too busy to make it to campus but there is utterly no legitimate rationale I can imagine for this terrible decision. I have never been more disappointed in a development affecting our conference, including the departures of Butler and Loyola. I believe strongly that the attendance will be horrendous and the decision will be proved disastrous before the champ game ever tips off. In a best case scenario there is an opt-out that will allow the conference to strike the contract immediately after the first tournament -- yet even then it's a potential disaster for Milwaukee next year. See that background picture on this site showing the Panther Arena filled to capacity? We will never again see that for our program. Neither will any other HL team. Madness.

The format is staying the same this year. Not only am I still baffled and more than a little irritated by the decision to move the tournament to a neutral site, but to keep the format the same doesn't make a whit of sense. This is a one-bid league; why try to artificially manufacture some kind of "advantage" for the regular-season winners when no such thing exists? In other words, the regular-season champions could end up playing Oakland on Saturday night. Does it matter that they finished ahead of the Golden Grizzlies? No. Lose and they'll still wind up in the NIT. For this coming year, you're effectively telling the Milwaukee and Valparaiso fans: stay home from the big event until Friday. We don't want your money the first three days of the tournament. Senseless madness.

By the way, I should clarify that I'm not saying there IS an opt-out clause -- only that given the circumstances that would be the best (remaining) case scenario. If there's not, wow.

Maybe the Horizon League office took a page out of the FIFA playbook. Should we ask if LeCrone has a Swiss bank account?

Maybe the Horizon League office took a page out of the FIFA playbook. Should we ask if LeCrone has a Swiss bank account? This is the point. If you're going to sell your league down the river, you might as well make some money in the process. Twenty thousand is chump change to some of our donors. If we were hard-up for cash, we should have asked them to help.

i dont like the neutral site, personally, i like the fact that home games are at stake in the first round.
