And a very nice facility that apparently will never get the opportunity to host a Horizon League tournament game.

At least for the next five years.
Is $20,000 per school/year really worth it to Horizon League schools for this move to Detroit?

You know this neutral site if going to be a flop. Five years and done IMO i hope, if the change is the flop we all expect it to be, that it will take less than five years for the experiment to be ended. The final contract, when signed, should contain language that allows the League to terminate the agreement early, if the League's legal staff are any good at all. For myself, i'm interested in what the addition of NKU will do to the league's competitive balance in various sports. Having ten teams no doubt has advantages over having nine, but it would be better if the tenth team makes the League more competitive, and not just in the marquee sport(s).

It sounds as if NKU will be eligible for HL tournament play immediately. How is that possible, when they are still ineligible for NCAA tournament play? What would happen if they were to win the HL tournament in any sport involving an automatic NCAA berth?

What would happen if they were to win the HL tournament in any sport involving an automatic NCAA berth? Based on how other conferences have handled this sort of thing they give the auto bid to the runner up. It seems weird and I have no idea if that is how the Horizon League would handle it. In 2014 the SWAC had four teams ineligible but all were able to participate in the conference tournament. They gave the bid to the eligible team that advanced the furthest. 2014 SWAC Tournament

He may not be able to play this year, but NKU got a big pick up in Alabama transfer Jeff Garret.

He may not be able to play this year, but NKU got a big pick up in Alabama transfer Jeff Garret. Face it, it's going to be two or three years before NKU is remotely competitive in this league. Of course, that makes the Norse the envy of every one of Youngstown State's five fans.

A pragmatic move, but not overly exciting. Solid enough move by the league.

I'm more juiced about having the 10th team back and hopes to go back with a balanced league schedule.
