I would like to think that a scholarship be reserved for every City Conference player of the year. Of course some wouldn't take it because Duke or UCLA has an offer on the table. Some may not qualify but that can be handled as well, Ricky Franklin for example. The gesture would be taken seriously by coaches and students. Who knows you might get lucky. The NBA use to have regional picks to boost attendance. That is why The Big O ended up in Cincinnati and Wilt ended up in Philly. Just food for thought, give the kid a scholly.

Interesting thought 73HL. I love seeing city kids like Ricky, Anthony, Deion and James do well in our program too. But guaranteeing a scholarship every year probably would be very unwise. A team only gets 13 of them and you have to be very selective. Riley is a fun little guard but he's probably 2 to 3" shorter than Keifer Sykes, and has nowhere near the athleticism. I hope he proves me wrong, but I see a D-III player in those clips. I could maybe see him as a D-I walk-on.

I agree but sometime Universities need to think outside the box. It isn't always about the best kid for your program but developing relationships. The Panthers need fans as well as athletes who compete and love to play the game. The more we get a few local kids per year the better. I thought we should have gone hard after Reed Timmer. He has done well at Drake and would have been our point for the future. We missed on that one. Now we are unsure of the future.

Talked with some coaches. I'm going to give this to you straight-up, Bob McGinn style: "Listed at 5-6, probably closer to 5-4. Maybe 118 pounds soaking wet. Yeah, he can score, but you can take down as many points as he puts up. Real quick little guy, like a waterbug. With him in your lineup, you had better play uptempo. Division 2 or 3."

His initials weren't JJ, so how would he have fitted in on the roster anyway? Good luck to him.

I hope he does well there. By the way -- he will play against more high majors in any given year than our players are likely to play in their careers. Think about that.

His high school head coach was on WSSP on Wednesday morning and Texas Southern wanted him as well.

I happened to stumble upon the MVSU vs BYU game and checked out their roster. I did not see Riley listed on ESPN or their site. Anyone know if he is still there?

He's not. I don't know why.
