I've heard some more things coming down the pipeline that will be going in, most likely next off-season. Suffice to say, we're going to be happy to be there for years to come. I stood in the way of "progress" and am damned proud of it. Damn you, ghost. If not for nostalgic old warhorses defending the Arena we could be playing on Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons in a massively outsized NBA palace or even better, in a little gym down the hall. Why must people like you always stand against progress? I'll bet you're an anti-dentite, too!

I'm a rabid anti-dentite! (But don't tell my dentist, who's a rabid Marquette fan.)

Pretty soon, we'll have everything at the renovated Arena ... except a postseason basketball tournament.
I'm still dumbfounded by this decision.

Pretty soon, we'll have everything at the renovated Arena ... except a postseason basketball tournament. I'm still dumbfounded by this decision. I heard that our AD voted to move the tournament to Detroit...has she given any reason or explanation??? It really really really sucks that the tournament is in Detroit. I never thought I would lose interest in Panther basketball but it is getting tiring watching how there is no thought or leadership on making things awesome. It kills me because there is so much potential at UWM to be an awesome mid major but as far as I can tell there hasn't been any real direction for the program. I think of all coach Jeter and the players have accomplished over the years despite all the challenges and setbacks, it makes me wonder what could be if the team and the league were fully supported instead of just an afterthought for the university. When can Jimmy finally take over the AD position...

When can Jimmy finally take over the AD position... This board thanks you for massaging my ego at the end there. But really... Through PantherU and the Black and Gold Club, we've advocated for many things: - We pushed to bring back Homecoming. It's just over a week away. - We pushed for a basketball practice facility. It's in fundraising stages now, and the design they're showing looks remarkably like our design. - We pushed for the university to purchase naming rights to the Arena, and we all know how that turned out. - We advocated for the addition of Oakland and Northern Kentucky. Who says I'm not already the AD? In all seriousness, it's refreshing to have an AD that is supportive of the ideas that fans have. While I would have actively tried to stop the neutral site move to Detroit from happening, I'm willing to give it one year. Maybe they'll surprise me and we'll have a big turnout. I fully expect to say "I told you so" in March 2016. But for now, what's done is done, let's give Amanda the benefit of the doubt and let's do everything we possibly can do to make sure our boys aren't playing Oakland in front of a wildly partisan crowd. Then again, maybe we want to play in front of someone else's crowd. We are the villains, after all.

Jimmy, I'll absolutely guarantee you today that we won't be playing in front of a "wildly partisan crowd" in March, unless it's in Indianapolis or Louisville against Kentucky; Charlotte or Greensboro against Duke or UNC; or Kansas City against the Jayhawks.

Crowd?

What kind of money, if any, does the League make from the deal with ESPN?
Whatever it is, it doesn't justify the change.

Nowhere near enough to justify this move. And there will be a crowd, Fran - just as long as Oakland or Detroit is in the game.

I honestly doubt a FINAL between DM and OU is likely to draw a crowd as big as those we have seen at Milwaukee, Butler or Wright for HLT final games.
That said, I believe any non-final tournament game not involving at least one of those Detroit area teams will measure its actual attendance in the hundreds. If the final doesn't involve at least one of those teams the attendance won't exceed the low thousands. It will be UIC vs Loyola in the Wollstein all over again.
I fear that there is no way to put lipstick on this pig. Essentially the league has said it's okay with the proposition that its biggest crowds are behind it, never again to be matched, much less exceeded.

Fran has this completely right. None of these teams have what anyone would consider a "traveling fan base."
Bernie Lincicome had a great opening line for his sports column in the old Tribune: "Some things you think, some things you guess at and some things you just know."
History tells us that this format will fail ... miserably.

i;m willing to give it a year, but i'd much rather have the tourney played at home sites. isnt that what makes college spoorts so much fun. a win or go home game played in front of your fans, or some other teams fans? Nuetral sites are fine for the Super Bowl, Final 4 or national title game in football, not for conference tournaments.
