In a move that will please many fans of the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Brewers took outfielder Mike Goetz in the 2006 First-Year Player Amateur Draft. Goetz, who was selected 752 overall, joins La Crosse Central product Richard Seidel and Weston Munson of Fon du Lac High as home grown products that will get their shot at Major League Baseball under the Brewers organization.
Goetz broke a UWM school record by batting .493, which comfortably stands ahead of the entire nation, and figures to play rookie ball for the Brewers this summer.
Seidel, a pitcher who throws solid heat to go with his curveball and changeup, was taken 482nd overall. He comes from a sporting family, as his sister was a swimming standout at Central, and he also was a letterwinner in basketball and football.
I don't know anything about Weston Munson, but we can all agree he has a kick ass name.

Again, some how we are referred to as UW-Wisconsin. Are the people at the Urinal-Sentinel trying to short change us, or are they just incompetent.

I'd bet that list was cut and pasted from MLB.com and they messed up. It still should be caught. Here's another followup to read about his BP. What an awesome experience for him. www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=433430

Can Mike Goetz ever hope to see the majors? Vinny Rottino was signed out of a tryout camp in Kenosha as an undrafted free agent in February, 2003 and currently has four homers and 23 RBIs and is batting .274 as a utility player at Triple-A Nashville. In 2004, he was named the Brewers minor league Player of the Year and at the start of this season was ranked as the organization's No. 28 prospect. Mike was effectively drafted 25 rounds ahead of Vinny, so yes, he could certainly hope to play in the bigs some day.

Yes Goetz can realistically play in the Majors someday. If he proves he can swing the bat consistently, there is always a place for guys like that. I know as of right now there is a log jam in the OF, however I think we'd be fooling ourselves to claim that all those guys will pan out, let a lone make the bigs.

I'm tired of people saying we should trade Jenkins. No one will take him. The reason we would trade him is to dump his salary, and no one in the MLB would pick that sh*t up for the job he's doing.

I agree sport...but all-american pitchers aren't typically available 752 picks into the draft
