Looks like we will pull this one out despite the poor officiating and terrible 2nd half defense. Still a road win, so there's that.

Lots of issues tonight. Poor free throw shooting, suspect defense, foul trouble (due to poor officiating), some poor decisions (Tiby charge). Still got the win, and that's all that matters. 1 away from the total for last season.

UNI and Bradley coming up, both home games. UNI is only 3-3 but their losses have been to Ohio, George Mason, and Maryland. Bradley is 6-2 with losses to Illinois and Arizona State. Both would be very good wins and both are highly winnable games.

UWM shot 70.6% from the line tonight, after starting 7-14. Made 17 of the last 20 free throws.

45 combined rebounds. San Jose State had 43 rebounds in one game against us and Tennessee Tech had 44.
Also only once all year (Davidson) has our opponent had more assists than us in a game.

Nice to see Jay-O have a tremendous game. It was needed. Also, especially late, CLUTCH free throws got us this win. Panthers played sloppy at times, but still found a way to win on the road. Now, in not even December, the Panthers are already one win away from matching last year's win total!

Best thing about Jordan's night was the period of time in the 2nd half when he wasn't taking any shots before reappearing late to hit those FTs. The opposite of ballhogism.

It just seems like the team as a whole is finally shedding the whole Chucking 3's mentality. There were a lot of times tonight where guys seemed to just about to shoot a 3, then pulled back and drove to the basket instead for points.

I like seeing Tiby drive to the hoop towards the end.. especially knowing that he's a marksman from the charity stripe. Kelm also seems to be benefiting from lifting those weights as he seems unstoppable going to the hole. One person I would have like to see drive to the basket more was Arians. He clearly wasn't feeling the three point shot tonight, judging by his air ball and lack of attempts. He has the moves and ups to take it to the hoop. Obviously, this was only one game but I'm hoping to see more of him besides from beyond the arc.
Aaron was quite impressive, not only from three point range, but also the way he can drive to the basket. Let's hope he stays hot for the remainder of the season. If we can have he and Arians as a legit threat from 3 and Kelm/Tiby/Panoske down low... we have potential to score a lot of points. We just need to work on making more stops. It seems like too many teams are scoring easy buckets on us. Granted, the new rules make it hard to actually play any defense and I know some of our big guys couldn't do much but put their hands up and move out of the way... but we need to find some sort of solution to that. Otherwise, we are going to find ourselves in a shootout with a lot of sub-par opponents. UMKC hit some good shots, but we are not 5 points better than them. We are 20 points better. And judging by some of their previous scores... we may even be 40 points better.

19 turnovers will also do it. Give credit to UMKC for coming up with ways to get the ball loose, but we definitely had sloppy ball control tonight, especially when we let them back in it in the second half.
If we had been handling the ball like we did in the first half, definitely we win by 20 or more...

Fun to watch these two teams play again. The last time I saw them play probably was ~ 1989 at the Klotsche during the days of Steve Antrim, Craig Greene, Maurice Turner, Ray Perine and the like. Both programs have come a long way since those NAIA days. It's great to see the Panthers and the 'Roos in respectable D1 conferences and playing on television. Both programs have come a long way. I'll always cheer for UMKC as they take me back to good times in the 80s.

Lots of things from the game last night, most of them good.
So I'll start with a few absurdities. I understand that officials are asked to watch with an eagle's eye flying hands and forearms out on the perimeter, but is it no longer a travel when a guy dives to the floor, jumps to his feet with the ball and drives to the basket? Last night's officials have completely revolutionized the sport!
In addition, the last time I checked the ball isn't a part of a player's arm. But a tip of the hat to the officials for trying to keep UMKC in the game.
As for everything else other than J.J.'s insistence on going to his left hand instead of his right, applause all around.
1, Though 5-foot-8, Jay-O is a catch-and-shoot player. No more of the Meadowlark Lemon stuff, just catch it and shoot it.
2, I've criticized Rob in the past for putting players with two fouls in the first half on ice, but given the manner in which games are currently being called I'd do the same thing. Good job getting Tiby and Kelm back in the game in the second half twice when it started to slip away.
3, Can't say enough about the tight eight-man rotation. Other than inserting Mitch into the game briefly in the first half while McWhorter got a teaching moment on the sideline, only Moore, Panoske and Lyle played off the bench.
4, What a difference a year makes! The team has gone from a 40-percent foul shooter in Big Mete to an 80-percent foul shooter at the same position in Sasquatch.
5, The team for the third time already (NIU and Tennessee Tech were the others) overcame considerable adversity to win on the road. Last year's team simply wasn't capable of producing these results.
