Dave Bagel is a joke! Let's shutdown volleyball, soccer, etc. all around the 300+ ncaa schools by his words because none of those sports get attendance and it's a waste of money to have young men & women play sports.
4,000+ average attendance in 2011-12 is pretty good for the Panthers! That ranks them about 130th out of 340 D1 schools. Marshall average attendance this last season was 5,800 per game and that puts them 100th.

It is a statistical fact that half of all schools will have a losing record in a given year. Many of those will have multiple losing seasons in a row. By this requirement D1 would be cut by as much as a quarter every year. Eventually it would be Duke Playing Kentucky endlessly for a season, and then Duke gets cut.
Also, how hard is it to google "NCAA division 1 basketball attendance?" I figured it out freshman year, but I guess not everybody is as smart as a middling student at UW-Milwaukee.

Unfortunately, many others who could be valued supporters feel the same. Begel is not alone as evident by many comments on this board. I hope we all agree that one missing ingredient for Panther Bashetball is lack of fan support. 5,000+ fans should be commonplace for one of the largest universities in the Midwest. The winning will come with fan support, student and alumni. Athletes are entertainers. They like to perform in front of crowds. Coaching becomes fun. Fun breeds excitement. So, rather than making dismal predictions and doing things that are not possible at this time, firing Jeter, I will talk up Panther Basketball. I will accentuate the positive, the Ricky Franklins and Anthony Hills, two kids that Begel probably would not recognize . They became solid players under Jeter and solid student as well. The current team has the potential to create excitement and fans. The base is here. This board should do its best to sell it rather than dismantle it. Guy like Dave Begel will never change.

Not only do mid-majors struggle with attendance, but many BCS programs across the country not named Kansas or Kentucky have difficulty putting fannies in the seats before the end of the football season. Do you folks remember the so-called crowd at last year's game against South Carolina?

In the last season of the BCS, here is some average attendance from the 2012-13 season. Miami (Fl)-5,814 USC-4,243 Boston College- 4,244 Houston-3,707 Rutgers-4,922 TCU-4,854 There were many others like Auburn & Texas Tech that was listed aroung 6 to 7,000. If you ever turned on a Texas Tech game last year, there was 2,000 in the stands. Many no-shows!

I'm not sure which is more embarrassing - Bagel's article or the childish name calling response from Panther U?
And this is why no one takes us seriously.

I'm guessing Begel hasn't made a donation to the UWM Alumni Association in a while.

If the reason people dont take us seriously is because I called a guy a jackass and asshat, I think we're in pretty good shape. But point taken. Sent from my SCH-R970 using proboards

The winning will come with fan support, student and alumni. I disagree. Fan support, whether it is fair or not, comes with winning. Bo Ryan and Bruce Pearl built a fan base by winning.
