UW-Green Bay Head Coach, Tod Kowalczyk, received a telephone call late on Wednesday evening from Randolph High School star, Ryan Tillema. Tillema wanted to inform Coach Kowalczyk of his decision to attend UW-Green Bay and play for the Fighting Phoenix beginning in the Fall of 2005.
Coach Pearl and the entire UW-Milwaukee staff did a great job in recruiting Ryan and deserve to be complimented on the way in which they conducted themselves while representing the University.
I'm quite certain they will continue to go after the best prep talent in the state and continue to be a force on the recruiting trail both in Wisconsin as well as nationally.

Thanks FoxValleySkillz for the information.
Tillema will greatly benefit UWGB, it was a great recruitment effort by their program.
Meanwhile we have many scholarships remaing. Hopefully we can still pick up Torre!

Congrats to Ryan, hopefully he will have a great career at GB, but it is still going to be tough losing to UWM twice a year . I have a question for the board. I know Childress is not rated that high by national recruiting sources, however he did did play on a stacked team (the starting 5 from last year, Childress included, all have/had D1 scholarship offers) and in one of the toughest divisions in Ohio. If Childress would be playing in Wisconsin, where would he rank this year? Would he be a top 10, maybe a top 5 senior?

The kid is #12 in the state of Ohio, I think. The talent pool in Ohio is FAR greater than that of Wisconsin. It is probably one of the top 6-7 states in America as far as HS talent goes (football and basketball). You have three "major" cities in Clevelend, Columbus, and Cincy, as well as many "mid" sized cities like Akron, Toledo, Dayton, etc. Its like the state of Illinois. I think that state produced 52 DI players last year while Wisconsin produced 11. Thats why Im not overly concerned with loading up on Wisconsin-produced kids.

Great post, Beano. I believe you have the proper perspective: Here's a list of my top 10 basketball hotbeds: California, New York, Illinois, North Carolina, Indiana, Florida, Ohio, Georgia, Michigan, Washington.

In Men's soccer... UWM 5 UWGB 1 We beat them in something yesterday... Mc...Heck, we beat GB in almost everything (save for women's basketball). In the grand scheme of things UWGB falls below Butler and UIC as far as competition for the "other" sports. And, until further notice, its the same way in men's hoops. Im far more worried about who Jimmy Collins is bringing in than Tod K. Getting Tillema is great for GB. However, until the results happen on the court Im not going to fret over paper results. Im guessing Texas would trade all of their "recruiting" victories over Oklahoma for real wins on the field.

You're absoluetly right Beano. UWM beats GB on most playing fields and the UIC board is buzzing about their two recent verbals.
By the way the out of place 30 somethings at BBC tonight around 9:30 will be me, Dylanrocks, and friends.

By the way the out of place 30 somethings at BBC tonight around 9:30 will be me, Dylanrocks, and friends. I will try to swing by as well. Unfortunately I don't know for sure if I am going to be able to make it to the festivities tonight, but if I do make it down to the East Side, I will keep an eye out for you guys. What time are you planning on leaving the BBC?
