Three g**d*** crossbar shots. I didn't get a good look at what they called for the PK, but we really beat ourselves yesterday. Mental mistakes resulted in the other two goals. The Panthers were the better team.

By far Milwaukee was the better team. Marquette won on dumb luck - the PK was questionable, the second goal wouldn't have happened if Shakon hadn't fumbled the ball, and several people with better views said the third didn't cross the goal line before time expired. It's not like basketball when it leaves your hands, it has to cross the line. In any case, our guys didn't clear the ball and they paid the price.
For once, the students I went with acted like angels. The worst thing they said to the opposing team was that they kept calling the big oaf "sunshine" because he looked like the guy from Remember the Titans. This is in stark contrast to the brand new Marquette freshmen who shoved each goal in our faces but spent most of the match quiet. They were rude, crass...basically, they were college freshmen who have no idea what it is to be a college sports fan - you cheer the whole time, not just when something good happens. Good lord, I'm getting old...did I just write that sentence?
I am not disappointed in our team or coaching staff. While it needs to be made perfectly clear to coach Kelderman that losing to Marquette is unacceptable in any instance, it was a real fluke of a game - the worst things they did were when Shakon had his brain fart and when they didn't clear the ball on the final play.
There's also something that is pretty shady that should be brought up. Because of construction at Engelmann in 2010, the Panthers had to give up the hosting rights that year to MU. So, MU had two years hosting in a row. Last season, the match was at Engelmann. In a rollover home-and-home deal, we should have hosted the match this year because of the match we gave up in 2010 allowed them to have two home games in a row, we should have been afforded the same thing. My guess is Louis took advantage of our coaching change and conned Kelderman into giving up the home match. "Well, you hosted last year so it should be here this season."
I'm proud of the program and I'm happy with what Kelderman said after the match to Gardner. He obviously is not accepting this and that's good. Now let's get the W Sunday and move on from there.

Men won Wed. night at Wisconsin 1-0. First win over the Badgers since 2005 and first win in Madison since 2002.

I'm legitimately shocked at Marquette's ranking. I've seen them play twice this year, and while they're good, they just did not seem THAT good. Regardless of whether or not it's luck or not, though, they're number 2 in the country.
What a nightmare.
