Sam Boyd Stadium was built in the middle of nowhere and the land was virtually free because of it. If you've ever gone to a game there. you'd hope UWM doesn't build a stadium that sucks in the middle of nowhere which kills their attendance. Barry Alvarez continues scheduling that game every few years to appease the heavy hitting donors who can tie a game into a Vegas trip. Actually doesn't Bucky go down there at least once every two years? I think it goes for football and men's basketball.

No, it's once every 4-5 years for football.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Boyd_StadiumAccording to this, UNLV's (off-campus) Sam Boyd Stadium was built at a cost of less than $10 million. At what point do we have to admit it might actually be more practical to start a football program and get a new home for our soccer and vagabond track programs in the process? Adjusting for inflation, Sam Boyd Stadium would cost $3.5 million in 1971 (at construction) and $18.6 million in 2010. That's still a very reasonable price for a facility that could host four (and maybe five) teams and events like Pantherfest. Not to mention Sam Boyd Stadium holds 40,000... you'd think we could get away with something half that size. I can't imagine there's too much wrong with the facility itself, or else it wouldn't be hosting its share of non UNLV football events such as USA Sevens.

It's a @#$%hole, the only reason it hosts events like the USA Sevens is because it is the ONLY stadium in the greater Vegas area. Seriously, go there some time for a game.

I think a much better example would be Finley Stadium at Chattanooga - were we to ever pick up football, THIS is the building we'd want to put together: www.gomocs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=17700&ATCLID=1097276

A Chattanooga-like stadium would be great if it were built near campus, but I think a Sam Boyd type stadium would be the right direction to go in for the Mile site, especially if the goal is to eventually build a stadium near campus.
