With the ghostofdylan at Oakcrest Tavern. His point -
Before anything else - amenities or scoreboard - they need to put chairback seats on the opposite side of the court.

I agree with the comments about this being a necessary evil, and hope that this is a temporary move.
As for pre and post game entertainment, they need shuttles form North Ave. I would gladly head down to North Ave, get some food and drink, take a shuttle to and from the the game. And do not suggest MCTS, that isn't happening.

Most of their buses (the short buses) have Panther athletics theme on them (My favorite is Chris Hill raising his arms with a Rob Sanders back bear hug). They currently run the shuttle between North Ave and Kenwood. That could easily be switched to Hartford. Boom.

One to Kenilworth runs via Downer/Farwell/Prospect/North/Oakland/Hartford. The other one serves Cambridge and Riverview runs via Downer/Farwell/North/Oakland/Hartford. Occasionally it runs up Humboldt to Locust to Oakland to Hartford. The shuttles do stop in front of the Library on Hartford across from Enderis Hall (on weekends after stopping at Sandburg). The shuttle system could def. be used for pre-post game North Avenue trips.

I hope this works out for UWM but I have my doubts. I found about this when a friend who agreed to buy season tickets with me for next season emailed me to say "No f****ing way am I buying tix to go there."
People need to understand that it's the game experience and not just the game itself that draws people in. That goes for students too. The idea that thousands of students will be clamoring at the doors just because the game is on campus is almost laughable.
Go to a Madison FB game to see what I mean. The pre and post game parties, the nearby bars jammed etc. This isn't Valpo, Milwaukee has other entertainment options and many students will chose those over going to this glorified HS gym.
As my friend has already shown, so will many others. It was nice going downtown, having dinner, and having a choice to venues to go to after the game.
And I don't even want to think of what this will do to recruiting...

Get ready Milwaukee fans, Panther Basketball is back!
Our men's team is going to play every league game in front of a packed house. The students are going to come to the games by the thousands now that the venue is on campus. Conference teams are going to fear THE KC for it's reputation of being the loudest basketball arena. Our players are going to play at a higher level with the boost they receive from a full fan section. And our recuits are going to be excited to play basketball in front of a passionate crowd.

More thoughts. 1. If we can't routinely sell out the KC, then the fundraising and argument for a new facility is lost. 2. This puts a lot of pressure on Coach Jeter. We have to win. No wins leads to #1 and further proves irrelevancy to alumni and students. 3. If this isn't temporary then we should consider stepping back to D2 or D3. Hard to argue with any of this. It'll be humiliating if the KC isn't packed with students every game. No more using the inconvenience of the Cell as a scapegoat to sugarcoat piss-poor student support. As a season ticket holder and booster for the past 12 years, I have mixed emotions about the move back to the KC. I agree with many of the posts....this is a necessary evil, and I hope its a temporary move. I'll be at the KC this fall.....and I hope I'm sitting in the same seat location as I have for the past 12 years. I'll miss the Cell. I have outstanding memories of some terrific Panther basketball games there. In Geiger We Trust???

[quote author=dutchpthr board=Games thread=6147 post=109533 time=1340764115 Also it is now on the students, all of you students who are in walking distance of campus you now have no reason to not show up other then you are not interested in your school at all.[/quote]
I disagree with this 100 percent. Just because you don't go to basketball games doesn't mean you are not interested in your school, it means you have other stuff to do that is more interesting than watching mediocore basketball. Its not on the students to show up, its on Jeter and the team to give them a reason to show up.

I go to Wisconsin Football games and if I couldn't party before the games I would still go because I am a big fan of Wisconsin Football. Likewise if we are playing at the KC instead of downtown I am still going to the game because I am a big fan of Milwaukee Basketball. I agree that it is nice to have something to do before and after games. The real question is are those fans that come only because the games are downtown do they make up the $230,000 cost of renting the Cell? I think it is a smart move to save some money until the University can build an on campus facility.

I think we should still be patient with a new arena on campus. The Norris site wont be available until 2018 when the new union (and health center) will open on campus. However, this may indicate that another site is being planned for the arena. Otherwise it could be awhile before we are out of the KC. There is a lot happening on campus -- which is a great thing for the university -- but, it also spreads resources very thin.

I'm pretty baffled why anyone would believe that our largely apathetic student body will suddenly be compelled to watch basketball in a miserable facility --- and I'm sorry, that's exactly what the KC is --- few seat backs, no video screens, inadequate infrastructure, high school concessions, and absolutely zero big game vibe.
Couching this in terms of an experiment to engage the students is probably the one thing that irks me the most about this move. That experiment was attempted last season and failed miserably (Western Michigan). I remember leaving the game thinking, "no way in hell I'm watching games here again." And that had little to do with the poor performance on the floor.
I will more than likely re-up my seats as I love watching Panther bball, but I certainly won't feel compelled to make the games like I did in the past. Because even when the product sucked, at least you were watching games in a truly wonderful basketball venue.
There is nothing necessary about this move beyond saving money. And if we're banking on students making up for the lost revenue of the many long-time season ticket holders that won't want to be part of the KC Experiment, then I really question decisions being made at the top. Students don't pay to get in the door. And they don't spend much money once inside... A necessary evil would have been to play at the Cell, pay the money, and wait three years to play in a great facility that would actually have a chance to attract both the student body and the alums and community that has been supporting Panther bball at the Cell for the last nine years.

The final year played at the KC in 2003, the Panthers averaged 3,447 for 11 home dates.

Guys. You're all forgetting about the trolly that coming. And Barrett wants it to extend to the Uwm campus. Problem solved (sarcasm)
