Seems like the pitching staff has been the strength of the team so far this year. One question i have and id love to hear more about if any one has any inside information is what is the deal with Joshua Uhen. www.uwmpanthers.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/uhen_joshua00.htmlI know he had elbow issues last year, but from everything i read preseason this kid was the next big thing for the program and was listed as one of three top newcomers in the Horizon League by Baseball America. Did the injury bug bite again? Are they red shirting? I dont see any appearances on the year, and i hope he isnt going through the same thing most younger high velocity guys go through, constant arm issues....

I am not sure why Uhen hasn't pitched at all but today he came in to the game in the 9th and faced 2 batters. He walked them both and then was taken out of the game. Good win today, the Panthers are playing pretty good ball lately and have a big series against Butler this weekend at the Hank.

Uhen had Tommy John Surgery last year the very end of April so that is why he has not pitched all last year or just till recently. It has only been 11 months recovery for him(usually 12-15 months) and he did pitch to 2 batters and walked them both, but then pitched again on the 11th and did a fine job. Obviously on a pitch count also after all he has been through. (rumor is that he hit 100 on the gun about a month ago). Was topping out at 96 last november or so. The kid is the true deal! Just needs more time to gel it all together, give him time and just wait!

I see that Hoenecke, Tassi and Meeteer made the all-conference first team.
Talk about going from the outhouse to the penthouse.
Nicely done, gentlemen! Doffek, as usual, should be national coach of the year.

Meeter is also the first Panther to make the 1st team as a freshman since 1997.

Walloped Butler 19-2 after the dumb loss to YSU yesterday.

here's hoping Paul Hoenecke gets picked tomorrow...i have to imagine he upped his value by turning himself from a utility player to a friggin Catcher/Utility player, while batting over .300 and hitting a decent number of homers

Hoenecke goes in the 24th round to the Dodgers.
The thing people need to know about these draft picks, the two pitchers I mean, is that 9th and 12th round picks aren't guys who are roster fillers - they have legitimate shots at the major leagues.

if they sign...
both have a year left, and it is definitely a bit of a gamble to give up a year of eligibility when you're outside of the top 5 or so rounds...

if they sign... both have a year left, and it is definitely a bit of a gamble to give up a year of eligibility when you're outside of the top 5 or so rounds... Here's the thing though, with the way MLB changed the draft allotment system, the picks from rounds 5-10 this year are used by teams to stay within the allowed allotment offers for those picks. After round 10, not signing a guy doesn't impact teams like it used to. That is why guys who were going in the 5th-10th round were going in rounds 11-15. The selections in rounds 5-10 this year were taken because they were low risks to not sign and pretty much agreed with teams before hand on what they would sign for. It's a pretty confusing situation. Guth is still going to get a nice signing deal from being a 9th round selection though. Regardless, 3 selections in the 1st 24 rounds is HUGE for the program. They only had 2 selections since 2006 before this year.
