Have you ever told someone you attend(ed) UWM and they think you are talking about Madison or perhaps a community college?
Have you ever told someone you attend(ed) UW-Milwaukee and they don't even understand what you are saying?
Have you ever said you are a UWM fan and get the reply of, "Oh, the Badgers?"
Have you ever seen a Milwaukee activity ever miscredited as an activity of another school?
Have you ever seen Milwaukee mislabeled as "UWM-Milwaukee," "University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin" or in any other incorrect manner?
Have you ever been the victim of any number of other possible confusions about our school's name?
Sick of media sources referring to the Panther athletic program as "Wisconsin-Milwaukee" or "UW-Milwaukee" when the official name has been Milwaukee for quite some time now?
If so, this is the thread for you!
I want to see just how many times incidents like this have happened. I think this will be good because it will show the misinformed just how confusing our name really is, give name change advocates something to use as support in arguments for a name change, and possibly serve as evidence when we finally make a real push for a name change.
I got this idea from a similar thread at NinerNation.net whose members have dealt with a very similar issue at UNC Charlotte.
Please keep submissions legitimate. Nothing made up, please.

From last night's Internet feed:
"Austin Arians checks in for Milwaukee-Wisconsin. Ugh, I knew I was going to do that. I mean, Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I could call them Milwaukee, but I'm not going to do that."
Could we please get some help on this matter from someone in the department. Please!

In the title and the body of this AP article, notice the team name AND the spelling. Thank you, Kevin Oconner, (spelling on purpose) for ensuring we keep getting referred to this way (in case you didn't know, he is our Sports Information Director, and he chooses to not fix this by officially refusing to call us Milwaukee on first reference). scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400507108 Wisc-Milwuakee outplays Youngstown State 82-76 Associated Press MILWAUKEE -- Jordan Aaron scored 27 points boosting Wisconson-Milwaukee to an 82-76 win over Youngstown State in a Horizon League conference opener for the schools on Thursday night. Youngstown State (9-6, 0-1 Horizon) led at the start 2-0 but quickly fell behind Milwaukee trailing by 10 at the half and eventually 19 points, 69-50, on a pair of Aaron free throws with eight minutes left. The six point margin of victory suggested the game was closer than it was actually played, but Youngstown State never really posed a threat. Milwaukee (11-4, 1-0 Horizon) outshot and outrebounded the Penguins and went to the penalty line 11 more times than Youngstown in earning the win. Steve McWhorter added 17 points and Kyle Kelm 12 for Milwaukee. Kendrick Perry led all players, scoring 31 points for Youngstown State and adding to his team leading 20.8 scoring average. Copyright by STATS LLC and The Associated Press LOL. Kevin is a good guy, but yeah, our SID needs to step up to the plate and ensure we are referred to the unambiguous, truthful name of "MILWAUKEE". It's what is on our jerseys. -col-in fItZ-gEr-alD. ("Hyhpens are awesome!!!!! If your brand name is Harley-Davidson......). PS: Nobody on this board can deny that in the past 2-4 years, the "Milwaukee" brand, despite the best efforts of many less-than-marketing-savvy people at the University who have laughed off our efforts- has become a pretty permanent fixture of C-Hoops nomenclature. See- ESPN, the Mid-Major Top 25, The H-League itself and well, pretty much every other media outlet not in the state of Wisconsin who seemingly thinks we are trying to pass our brand off as the "Milwaukee" Bucks... We are a college. Do the Bucks play Valpo this Saturday?? LMAO. It's such a farce- esp. on the Journal-Sentinel's egg-on-face. Ironic a bit? As adamant I am at ensuring we are referred to by our proper athletics brand name- I whole-hardheartedly understand the sentiment that, it doesn't matter if we are Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wisc-Milw, UW-M, UW-Milwaukee (academic just as UW-Madison is an academic brand) or rightly referred to as " MILWAUKEE".... What we need is Champions. Yet when they are crowned (they will be)- they should be referred to as the MILWAUKEE PANTHERS. Period. Point. _________. A vociferous advocate of helping to establish a concrete MILWAUKEE brand- I haven't sent an email to ESPN, the Horizon League, CBSSports, etc. in probably 3 years.... But even they have finally gotten the point (ie. SUNY-Buffalo? Nope Just BUFFALO as they should be called).... yeeesh. You would think our AD would care more about our brand and identity (there are still belt-buckle/purple panther gear that is plasted around campus and "for sale" at the UWM Bookstore)- but it's the nation outside of Wisconsin who has so ironically "established" the MILWAUKEE PANTHER brand. Odd to say the least....). But I digress from the real situation at hand. Valpo- must be vanquished this coming Saturday night at the Cell. One win at a time.... GO PANTHERS!!!!
