Those two were so resigned to losing. It was adorable.

I do like the fact that we hit most all our FT's at the end. the overall % was not super (%68), but it's better. That is a good sign. Our shooting %'s were good, but our overall 'D' should be better. Loyola is better than their record indicates (but not much better). They really struggle to generate much offense past Kamp, but he creates a lot more looks for others with the attention you need to give him.

Nice way to finish the year. Winning equals momentum, and it doesn't matter if it's against poor teams.

Just got back. Gentile is quite a nice turnaround. From a big high school gym to a very nice smaller arena. They used seat sections (so if someone leaned back - or in my case if a kid behind you was kicking the seat a few down from you - you felt it) But still a very nice job done in just the off-season.
Good game. A few defensive lapses, and it took a while to find an offense when there weren't wide open looks from beyond the arc, but Loyola's been much improved recently, and I'm definitely satisfied with the showing. I do wish the refs would've let them play a little more. Can't say it was favoring either side, but the game never really got into a good flow in the 2nd half.
Onto the tournament!

Just a few rapid-fire thoughts on the game today (some of them you'll surely recognize):
1, When Paris hits his first shot, it's on.
2, When Paris and Tony are both hitting from downtown on the same night, it's over.
3, Sure, Kaylon is prone to the occasional mind-boggling turnover, but I just can't imagine this team without him. Tonight, he was just about as good as a point guard can get.
4, This is the 13th time in program history -- and the ninth time as a Division 1 member -- that the 19-win plateau has been reached, including each of the last three seasons.

"The problem is, you put a really good free throw shooter on the line" - Loyola color commentator after Kaylon Williams gets fouled Funny thing is, Kaylon's been a good FT shooter since Green Bay (26 of 31).

Surprised at all the negative comments. Good Game; good win. Didn't notice anyone else in Hamilton's with UWM Gear on. I'm glad other panther fans have realized what I did today. Hamilton's is not Goolsby's. Hopefully this buries all the Buyout Jeter's contract nonsense. Was there anyone there who didn't enjoy themselves? I think the Panther Fans made themselves heard. Good luck to the Panthers the rest of the way. At De Paul I thought this was a good Panther team, AND today's showing confirms that opinion.

This is one of the top nine teams in 22 years of Division 1 basketball at UWM ... and possibly rising.
I think that stands on its own merit.

The Panthers have been Division 1 more than just the last 22 years. They actually were Division 1 during most of the 1970s (1973-1980), it just seems everyone has decided to ignore that fact, which is disrespectful to those who played/coached during that time period (no disrespect to Kaylon Williams, but Gerald Hardnett is the actual UWM D1 all-time assists leader).

Kaygee, I respectfully acknowledge your post, but I have to state for the record that 53 of Gerald's 106 career games were played against non-Division 1 or small-college teams.
This would be akin to Kaylon playing against a slate half-filled with Minnesota State and UNO.
The program could call itself whatever it wanted over that seven-year stretch, but the schedule strongly suggests that it was Division 1 in name only.
Here's the school's 1975-76 schedule:
Lewis, at Wichita State (L, 107-65), North Dakota, UW-Whitewater, St. Norbert, Northern Iowa, New Orleans, Texas Southern, Shaw (Mich.), St. Francis (Ind.), at West Texas State, UW-River Falls, at Wayne State, at Oakland, at Cincinnati (L, 76-61), UW-Parkside, Loras, Silver Lake, Northern Michigan, at Denver, at Air Force, SIU Edwardsville, at Illinois State, at Jacksonville, at New Orleans, at Loyola (L, 87-71).

All you can do is play the teams in front of you. Gerry Hartnett was a hell of a player. I'd rate him and Clay Tucker as the two best guards who ever wore the black and gold.
