Most of you may not know this (well how could you; the Journal Sentinel doesn't even THINK to check on it themselves!), that Paul Hamm of Waukesha, who just won the Gold in the men's overall gymnastics competition, had attended UWM until his training forced him to move to Ohio.
Do you think the J/S would acknowledge this in their "Wisconsin Watch Section of the sports page?? nnNNOoooooo.....
So I've taken the liberty (once again!) to write my friend Garry Howard, et al, with the letter below...
"Don/Gary,
Thank you for the excellent coverage of the Olympics, and in particular the stories today on Paul Hamm. I watched things unfurl last night on TV and was nothing short of thrilled to see the outcome.
One point of contention, however, that I'd like addressed. In the "Wisconsin Watch" section you highlight several WI athletes. In some cases you make links to "the" schools in the state.
Once again, however, I find myself disheartened that you don't indicate that Olympic champion Paul Hamm actually attended UWM. I think it's great that you give credit to other college athletes in the state, but simply request that you share the wealth and be equitable in your reporting.
I can understand the occasional oversite, however there seems to be a pattern in your reporting to only highlight student/athletes or former student/athletes from those institutions.
I appreciate your attention and look forward to continued excellent coverage of the Games...."
(I know, overstating the "excellent coverage" may be a bit thick, but hey, ya gotta stroke these chumps...)
Let me know what y'all think of this.
