Good time to bump this thread. Both J.P. Tokoto and Sam Dekker have decided to make themselves available for the draft. Dekker might be a borderline lottery prospect. As for Tokoto, all I can say is that I didn't know the D-League had a draft. Not sure what he's thinking.
Dekker pretty much reached his potential this year, and it was as impressive as expected. J.P. seems no different than he ever was -- freaky athletic with very undeveloped shooting and ballhandling skills. Anyway, I wish them both luck.
I'm not a pro basketball fan. When I sat down in my seat at Lucas Oil to watch the national championship game my first thought wasn't "I sure hope the Badgers win," it was that this was the last time I would see Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker play basketball and care what happened. That's the way it is as a college hoops fan. Every year is exciting and new, but sad too. I'm going to miss watching Frank, Sam, Josh, Duje and Trae at UW and I'm going to miss Steve McWhorter at Milwaukee. But next year it all starts over with new guys who will win our hearts. So it goes.

There are plenty of lottery prospects that flame out quickly (Joe Alexander), while 2nd round/undrafted players get big 2nd contracts (Wes Matthews). I wouldn't be shocked to see Tokoto have a career in the NBA. There is a spot for athletic wing defenders.

Dekker is nowhere near his potential. He grew 2 inches in the offseason and spent all year getting used to using his new body. Another year in college could have made him a POY candidate. But I'm sure he'll be a fine pro.

Yeah I worded that poorly. Definitely agree that Sam has the ability to get much better. I do wonder whether he'll have the stamina for an 82 game season as a rookie. It's theoretically possible Tokoto could play a Tony Allen like role in the NBA. Unfortunately for him, he's more like Ryan Allen. Loved Ryan at Milwaukee but the NBA ruthlessly exposes guys without skills. I think that will be Tokoto's problem too.

It's also theoretical that Dekker had a good season, exploded in the tournament, gets drafted too high and turns into Derrick Williams/Joe Alexander.

Tokoto said he felt he's gone as far as Roy Williams can take him. I've seen several Heels fans say he was in line to lose playing time next year and didn't get along with several teammates.
