It is now time to redo the banners we have hanging at the Mecca.
Did anyone notice Cleveland State's?
They have one for each League Championship and their Sweet 16.
We need to do the same.
Who do we need to talk to, to get that done?

Completely agree. And make them so you can actually read them from a distance. Plus, it's a shame that someone walking in would think that Milwaukee's accomplishments didn't start until 2003.
Time to honor the pre-Division I accomplishments. Green Bay has banners for its Division II success hanging at the Resch.
Here are the banners you could have to separate accomplishments:
1960 NCAA Small College Tournament 1982 NCAA Division III Tournament 1989 NCAA Division II Elite Eight 2003 Horizon Tournament Champions 2003 NCAA Division I Tournament 2004 Horizon Regular Season Champions 2004 National Invitation Tournament 2005 Horizon Regular Season Champions 2005 Horizon Tournament Champions 2005 NCAA Division I Sweet 16 2006 Horizon Regular Season Champions 2006 Horizon Tournament Champions 2006 NCAA Division I Second Round 2011 Horizon Regular Season Champions
Obviously, it comes down to $$$ ... and there's not much of it to go around. Getting a sponsor to pitch in (and get a banner alongside, perhaps?) might be the way to go.
Oh, and retire #30.

I was thinking about the $$$. But I can't imagine those banners cost that much to make.
It can't be more than $1k to make one of those, could it?

Hack,
I completely agree with all of your points. Certainly a donor can be found to underwrite the banners.

I'd limit it to one banner per year, do we really want 3 banners each for 05 and 06? 3 banners for '89, '05, and '06 being the focal point; larger than the rest. Having one banner for a year, and smaller banners for lesser accomplishments helps with the cost too.

"I'd limit it to one banner per year, do we really want 3 banners each for 05 and 06?"
Yes. Yes we do.
We should do the exact same thing other schools in our conference have already done.

I'd like a banner for each Horizon Title regardless of Tournament or Regular Season and not one for each...along with the older ones.
In addition to that I would like to find out since we are the main users now, can we put up a banner for each team in the Horizon League too.
1960 NCAA Small College Tournament 1982 NCAA Division III Tournament 1989 NCAA Division II Elite Eight 2003 Horizon Tournament Champions 2003 NCAA Division I Tournament 2004 Horizon League Champions 2004 National Invitation Tournament 2005 Horizon League Champions 2005 NCAA Sweet 16 2006 Horizon League Champions 2006 NCAA Division I Second Round 2011 Horizon League Champions

Each banner represents an accomplishment. Hang all of them as far as I'm concerned. We need to remind our fan base that this program is slowly but surely developing both a history and a tradition.

Personally I like how UW has it in the Kohl Center. Have one banner for conference champs listing the years on that banner. Have one for NCAA appearances with years on it. Have one with Horizon league tourny champs with years on etc. But thats just me I like to keep things simple.
On a somewhat related note when Crean was at MU he had banners in the Al for the great alaskan shootout champs and other preseason tourny champs. I went back for some sectional finals a year into the Buzz regime and they were gone. Obviously that is different from what we are talking about I just don't want to be a program that hangs a banner for everything.

I'm more with planner. Keep it simple. But I'd still have banners by year. Just because someone else feels the need to hang multiple banners for one year's accomplishment doesn't mean we need to. We're better than that. As an example the 2005 banner can have in increasing size, HL Season Champs, HL Tournament Champs and Sweet 16. Cluttering the Cell (and the future arena) with banners for the same thing? Pass. Super Pass. Über Pass. We're better than that.

i agree on the simpler banners, and the other horizon schools too.
What would help making those banners stand out more is change the color scheme. Black letters on Gold banners. The black banners too easily blend into the shadows on that back wall.

You know what I love? That in the last two weeks, we all spontaneously started to rightfully refer to it as the Mecca again.

I have never called it "The Cell".
But, I'm old enough to remember watching the Bucks on TV playing at the Mecca.

Two points.
1. #30, for a very stupid reason, will not be retired until that reason is taken care of and/or rectified.
2. We don't need to be like ALL conference schools...Valpo hangs banners for their motherf***in Preseason NIT appearances.
Each of these gets a banner for each time achieved:
Conference Regular Season Champions Conference Tournament Champions NCAA Tournament Appearances Undefeated Seasons (1940-41, look it up) Retired Numbers
And, something I've thought would be special:
Current all-time leader in Points, Rebounds, Steals, and Assists (each gets a banner)
When that player is usurped, they are given the choice of keeping the banner or having it hang in the Klotsche Center (updated to say former all-time leader)
