It never seemed to me like UWM as a whole gave a crap about Athletics except for Nancy Zimpher. She was like the Pearl of academics. Anything to promote the school she was doing and she realized that athletics was one of the best means of promotion. Santiago is more concerned with academics and while that is not a bad thing, I think they are missing out on a great opportunity. I also think the AD shares some of the blame. He should be out there promoting not only basketball but all sports. He is about as low key of an AD as I have ever seen. No offense to him but maybe he has just gotten complacent and it might be time to shake things up...however that is unlikely to happen because as I stated before, the Chancellor doesn't seem to care.

really there needs to be a pre-game, there needs to be something to galvonize students to get pumped and then they'll jump on the bus. If you can get people excited for gameday you will get fans to show up. The sad thing is that fans not only dont show up but they dont watch the game or pay attention to if we are winning. It sounds cliche and I wish I had a better suggestion but for now cookout seems to be the best idea I can think of offhand. JUst something that people enjoy and draws and crowd and then make it the pre-game party.

A pregame...I like that idea.
How about a team lunch at noon or so in the dorms, where everyone is accessible to the students, and then at about 4:45 or 5 o'clock, everyone can meet, have a brat and party, then hop on the bus to go to the game?
These are great ideas, keep em coming. Repo, while I respect what you're saying, we're not talking about who cares and doesn't care. We're asking for ideas on what we can do to drum up student support and attendance.

yeah get the mascot out there too. It would be nice if it was more of a community thing too so that we could draw people from the houses around campus or even non-students. The question is will a cookout be able to do that. Maybe down in the gausthaus where there is a bar, food, and that gaming area. It seems acheivable to me but what does it take to make it happen?

You can do a cookout anywhere on campus as long as it's planned right. You just need to get the permission of whomsoever area your going to do it in. You can make brats before and set up in the channel in the dorms...or outside...just got to talk.

You can add support from the Student Association to things we have in our corner. Not monetary, but personnel support (something the AD drastically needs).

Well sure, no cold weather stops us. Of course, it might force us to move where people will eat the cooked food

if its so damn cold outside which it is I'm not disagreeing with you ksweise, then what about a brat fry? and maybe have it be for lunch at 12 o clock in the channel (is it still the channel? i havent been in the dorms in ages) with players and coaches just so that they can meet people... I know people will come out if they feel a personal connection to the team. Since Rob took over it seems that the team is almost secluded and not as visible as previous years.

We're just getting ideas now. I'll be doing what I can to implement them for next semester.
How about this?!
Texas A&M has Yell Practice the night before every home game. What if we had something like that? Maybe we can have a cheer practice (with a less queenish name) an hour before the game, or the day of the game? Who likes this idea?

along with the cookout i would like to do something to get some publicity. who cares what it is, it can be stupid as hell as long as it gets people talking. something where the news or televised games would want on their station. i'll think of something but what do you guys think. its all about bringing recognition then lets get people talking.

I like the idea, but how many people do you really think would show up? Especially after the last few games that we've stunk it up. Whatever, I'm sure I would show up to whatever is decided.

As a freshmen I would like to say the dorms are defenitely an untapped resource. There's got to be around 5000 kids who live or have friends in the dorm. A team lunch in the dorm would do wonders for the freshmen attendance, especially considering some of our big upcoming players live amongst us. A pregame party or get together would be great, but if i know freshmen i know the love to get drunk. I just wish there was a way to stir up attendance through parties without creating a haven for underage drinking. What if we just went door to door in each suite talked with anyone who answers the door and leave fliers, i mean just absolutly blanket the dorms. Im just really at a lost and cant think of anything else to do, a few of my friends and i have attended every home game but 1, but its getting harder for us to get people to come with us when they team is not winning. I wish there was a possibility of giving extra incentives to the freshmen that go, because they are the most important in building the fan base of the future.

Thanks jeg for your support. Your ideas are good.
Hopefully we can get more and get something going. We are going to need the support more now than ever.
