While we are all excited about the progress we see on the court, let's not forget the enormous progress we've been seeing off the court.
I'm talking about the student section and it's new leader, Black Panther (aka Jimmy). Not since the days of Baker fieldhouse have I seen a student section as energized and engaged as the one I've seen the last two games. They are there are growing numbers and they are loud.
Much of the credit goes to Jimmy whose energy in leading the cheers is exceeded only by energy shown by the players. Way to go Jimmy. You make us all Panther proud!

I came on here to compliment Jimmy also this morning but it looks like someone has beat me to it. This is the kind of fan base this team needs and i am glad to see someone has stepped up to the plate and is serving as a Leader of the student section. I just graduated in May and throughout my five years i was embarassed to go down and sit in the student section , just because frankly there wasn't anyone else down there unless it was a tournament game. To see the whole student section almost filled for Upper Iowa is crazy and to see that all of these students are listening to Jimmy and his cheers is what college basketball is all about. I really feel like the recruits that came here last night enjoyed the turnout, and the players also. I am sure these recruits came out last year and have been aware of Panther Basketball for some time, but for them to see this change in support and this "being part of something special going on in Milwaukee" as Torre Johnson said this morning in the paper. Go panthers and go Jimmy. Your doing great things for this University and should be complemented for not only this but your growing involvment in the post and the great stories that have come from it.
Props to you......

Jimmy, with the kind of effort, enthusiasm, and pride you have shown to help build this fan base you deserve a scholarship! Keep it up!

I was thinking the same thing from my own seat last night. Nice job Jimmy!

I had to give Jimmy and the rest of the students major props as well. Awesome job last night- I hope the section is as energetic and loud for the rest of the season. Did anyone else notice the entire team high five the front row of students right after the game, even before going over to Upper Iowa? I thought that was a great move, probably from Jeter.

Shouldn't this thread be renamed the Jimmy Lemke love-fest?

I agree ... great surprise to see a full student section participating and wearing the same color last night. Hopefully it continues to grow. Not since the days of Baker fieldhouse have I seen a student section as energized and engaged as the one I've seen the last two games. Can't agree with that ... ghostoffreak, et al, set the bar to be matched years ago.

Wow. You guys have no idea how much I appreciate the things you've said on here. It's the best feeling in the world to get this kind of acknowledgment, it really is. I just want everyone to know that this is only the beginning. We're going to keep growing and growing.
The real validation was when Jeter was giving us the thumbs up and wave even before we started the Robbie Jeter chant. And this was with over a minute left in the game.
And it isn't just me. Tommy Dunne, Andy Karas, and a great group of incoming freshmen are doing a lot to help me out. It would definitely be a different story if I were the only one running the section.
We're going to do some extra work this week to get as many students to UNI as possible, seeing as it's a Sunday. As for the section itself, I think we need more people to step up and lead. If you're in the section or a student who sits in regular seats, by all means come down and help. If I could have one critique of how the section ran last night, it's that we weren't a full section. The farther back in the section it got on most chants, the quieter the students.
I'd also like to develop some stuff with the band and the cheerleaders, maybe a dance number type thing (a la Madison's dancing to Tequila, but not that obviously).
I guess I'm lucky to have a big group of writers at the Post now so I can stay in the student section. Mike Kennedy deserves a hell of a lot of credit for the way things are being run now with the blog and the sports section.
I know we're having a good run right now (I mean damn, how many students were at Upper Iowa hahaha), but let's not forget next game is a Sunday afternoon game, so I personally don't expect a big crowd even though UNI is a big game. Lower the expectations for that game, haha. South Dakota State the next Tuesday, on the other hand, hopefully we can pack the house.
Hack is right. I'd like to think I'm doing a good job, but there's so much more I'd have to do before I would even think to be named in the same breath as Hoffman, Goodhue, Silverthorn, Bass, McMillan, and all the other guys who built the section long before me.

Just keep building..thats all i can think of, the one big thing I think that worked was the fact that we tried to get on the same page as the cheerleaders and the band. It's going to take that co-op to make the Krazies that much better...

Keep it up jimmy, it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job with the section this year... after this year you will be mentioned far above the likes of Hoffmann, Goodhue, Myself (Silverthorn), Bass and McMilllan, you are doing a great job spreading panther pride throughout the campus. Hopefully as work/softball nationals and inevitable shoulder surgery afterwards cools down i will be able to get Mac and Bass and come out and help you out for a game. Keep it up and you other guys on the board, keep up this great spirit, last years board was so terrible to look at even though i knew it was going to be a down year there seemed to be no optimism about the current season and instead everything was looking towards the future, lets keep the spirit high on the board and keep giving our players our full support. Go Panthers Brett

Well, I did change my major at the end of sophomore year from journalism to English (causing every English teacher I've ever had to breathe a sigh of relief, as well as stopping them from berating me for wasting myself on JMC) so I should be here for 3 more seasons (counting this one)
