I totally understand not living in Milwaukee and wanting to get a single game ticket, but I would say using "UW-M" (with an explicit and un-necessary hyphen) to reference our team (with full knowledge that no signage/images/logos/etc. exist with "UW-M") is kind of a D-Bag move. We aren't stupid.. we get it. You realize we have this branding/naming complex so you exploit it. Well that's all well and good. While I and thankfully many others will continue to work toward solidifying a brand for Panther hoops (btw- how well known was the acronym "MU" before Marquette made it their primary logo??), you can call me/us hypersensitive about this issue. I don't care- I am going to call (BS) like I see it. And I expect others to do the same (even on my BS). It's an honest mistake. Like I said, I grew up calling them UWM (or UW-M or UW-Milwaukee), and had never heard what you're referring to. When I've seen it on the news in the Milwaukee area, it's always been UWM. I wasn't aware of the complex that you guys have, but it's become painfully obvious. Didn't mean to touch a nerve. You can call, "BS," on this one, but it'd be incorrect. Like I said, it seems like you guys are really looking for things to offend you.

On topic! Vander Blue is having an incredibly difficult time adjusting to college basketball. Discuss! As one Panther fan to another, Shutup!

I've never seen UW-M with hyphen before, but that's neither here nor there. I was never one of the ones to push the recent name change too drastically, but it's a cosmetic improvement if nothing else. So I ran with it. Call us whatever you want, warrior, it won't bother most of us. But it would be the same as calling MU the Gold. The official name is Milwaukee Panthers, and we'd appreciate if that one spreads. Incidentally, at the game you will hear us referred to as such; if recent history is any indication. Have fun at the game, and cheers to a great season and a renewed (mostly) friendly rivalry.

I don't see how calling you guys the official school name is like calling us a name that we were called for all of like 72 hours, that never technically became official, but whatever. Doesn't the fight song even say, "Fight, Fight, Fight for UWM" or something like that? Agreed on best of luck on a great season, minus one game of course.

It's a recent name change, and the local media has been slow (if not unwilling) to accept it. That is easily the biggest anchor on advancing it at all.

It's kind of hard to be too mad at muwarrior when the JS calls us UW-Milwaukee and our own website is uwmpanthers.com.
Regarding the UW-M, though: you never see UC-LA, UA-B or UT-EP. Just some food for thought.

No kidding, BP. He's shining us on. But why take someone seriously who can't give up the "warrior" tag anyway? That nickname is so old and retrograde it's amazing to me to see these guys still clinging to it. It's like seeing a crazy person wearing the same ratty, moth-eaten scarf all the time, even when it's 80 degrees out. For crying out loud, how long has it been since the good fathers jettisoned that embarrassment anyway? 20 years? So ignore these Willie Wampum dead-enders. Marquette is the Golden Eagles. Just like Southern Miss, Oral Roberts, Tennessee Tech and Boston College.

BTW, thanks for answering my specific questions. Good to see when you're challenged to answer with facts, you back down.

As for the Warrior thing, it's since 1994, hardly 20 years, and a man of your professed intelligence knows that. Once again, Warriors is what I (and my family) grew up calling them. That's what they'll always be to me. BTW, how many teams are nicknamed the Panthers...?

My mistake. So anyway, the warriors are long gone, sonny. I believe it's been what, 16 years now? You're being treated with all the respect a disaingenuos troll deserves.

I'm not "disaingenuous" (sic)(is that Spanglish? ) at all. If you notice, I came asking a legitimate question re: tickets before this thread devolved into what it is now (thanks to BlackPanther's still unexplained response) and then explained why I referred to you all with the name that I did. And to paraphrase Al McGuire's response to Adolph Rupp, " f you're going to call me son (or sonny, in this case), you'd better put me in your will."
