My friend Vito on Monday's exhibition against Value City:
"Don't laugh! That's our third-best non-conference opponent!"

Was at the MU game tonight, this may be a little bit of my UWM bias kicking in but they didn't look good at all. Belmont seemed to control the game the whole way. Although he took a few too many 3's in my opinion, Ellenson is definitely a one and done type of player, he's a special talent.

I watched on tv. Lots of stupid plays. I'll give them a few games before forming an opinion, but you are right that they didn't look great.

Belmont is a very good team with a lot of experience and a great coach. MU showed their inexperience multiple times down the stretch. Credit to them for fighting back from 11 and 9 point 2nd half deficits. Ellenson is a monster. I was happy with the result sitting on Belmont +6.5 & +248 on the moneyline.

Matt Velazquez will be taking an indefinite leave from the MU beat.
He's going to need to get some counseling.

No worse than a home loss against the likes of Western Illinois.

Marquette barely beat IUPUI in OT.

The "crowd" at that game would have fit comfortably in the Klotsche. MU is paying the price for its embarrassing scheduling model.

The Golden Eagles are truly testing themselves against this schedule. They almost lost ... again!

MU gets lucky and beats LSU by 1. Watching a game coached by Wojo makes me feel lucky to have Rob Jeter.

LSU is horribly, horribly coached but they certainly have some talent, and given the depth of MU's performance against Iowa I give Wojo credit for pulling out a win. (But let's be honest -- gimmicks like the plain white t-shirts and practice at a playground are purely and simply PR events. If they weren't why did they have cameras on scene? Utter inanity.)
That said, the game was nearly unwatchable. It's what happens in the modern age when you have so many freshmen playing against so many freshmen, talent notwithstanding.
Watching guys like Simmons and Ellenson I couldn't help but think of the old days when they would be learning the game on freshman teams. But since those days are gone forever they should just be allowed to go straight to the NBA. They are only in college now because the NBA wants a minor league it doesn't have to pay for. And lord knows they aren't going to get much coaching this year.

Forget trying to arrange equitable terms. Just play them at their place every year for less than the standard rate.
Marquette will win perhaps every time, but that's not really the point.
What it will do is spare fans on both sides another in a growing line of lousy opponents. How on earth do you expect to draw or get the teams excited to play games against Maine, Grambling, Edwardsville or Judson?
Let's just play the damn game! Where is Dale Hoffman when you need him?
