OK, so there might be movement to and/or from the CAA and the SoCon coming up...I don't know why I like realignment talk so much

After pulling rabbits outta their hats, it looks like the WAC and ASun might both be down (at least) 2 teams again:

I still wish we had football.

Murray State is likely going to the MVC. The other two are football schools. Without football, we have no path forward outside of the MVC or A10. Our case for the MVC would be helped if we had football. The practice facility helps, but it's not going to do anything if it's not paired with success - consistent success - at the top of the conference. Extended time at the level y'all were used to under Pearl. I don't necessarily think the program has to go to another Sweet 16 to get out, but we have to consistently be winning the conference, getting into the NCAA Tournament and winning games in the Big Dance when we get there. That's more than what Belmont did to get into the MVC. The Bruins have yet to win a game in the tournament. But their first year in the NCAA Tournament was 2006, the same year Rob Jeter went to his first. Belmont's now been to eight total tournaments, four times the amount we've been to in the same 15-year time frame. They'd have had a ninth in 2020 if not for Covid. The most likely possibility is what Big DWSU has been saying for years: this core group that came from the Mid-Con to the MCC is most likely stuck together. Cleveland State, UIC, Wright State, Green Bay, Milwaukee and NIU all left the Mid-Con and joined what is now the Horizon League together. NIU isn't with the rest of us because they have football. I don't see us ever getting the consistent success required to move up at this point. Coach Baldwin might somehow get that level of success this year with his son on the team; I don't think anyone expects him to reach a Pearl level of sustained success here (if you can call four years sustained). And because I just can't help myself, do any of you expect Amanda Braun would be able to find the coach that could bring that level of sustained success? To me, the only program she's hired a successful coach for is women's soccer, a program that was already a national power when she hired Troy Fabiano. I'm just going to enjoy Horizon League basketball. It's fun to think about where we could be, but with the wreck this program has become it's going to be a long time before we have the resume to move up.

You don’t need recent success to get invited into the MVC. Look at Loyola. I think we would make a ton of sense for the MVC given our media market and facilities, if the MVC lost teams or decided to expand. Who knows, if we have success this year, it might put us on a couple radars. I don’t think the A10 makes sense for us.
All that said, I’ve always been a proponent of staying. Find a way to be the big fish in this Horizon pond. It’s wide open right now. Nobody is claiming big dog status. Let’s stay and find a way to compete for a tournament championship every year.

This move knocks the ASun below the 6 football schools that it needs for the football conference starting next year.
Wonder if they grab a D-II callup or 2 (Valdosta State, W. Georgia, Queens in NC, and Lincoln Memorial in TN have been mentioned as possibilities), continue to raid the OVC (Morehead & Tennessee State?) or go for the Southland this time (IDK, a school in Louisiana)
Jacksonville State & Liberty are also the ASun's 2 best schools in basketball this year...with Bellarmine third. Would LOVE to see the HL make a move

There's also apparently some uncertainty about Murray State to the MVC
Basically, realignment is inching closer and closer to the HL

I'd like to see them either try for Bellarmine and Murray if the MVC thing falls through, or make it clear to USI that an offer is on the table and go for USI and Bellarmine if Murray does get to the MVC. One thing that gets kinda complicated if Murray fell through is that NKU would become a strong candidate for the MVC as a travel partner for Belmont. They're a former conference rival of Bellarmine (and USI), and a nice geographic fit for Murray

Maybe that public/private balance thing doesn't matter that much?
...if KC is in the mix, I'm allowing myself to have hope again (though...IDK, Norlander hasn't really been popping off with realignment info...might not be as much there as the article states?)
