New HL website: horizonleague.org/They also now use the new Panther logo that just says "Milwaukee." Now only if our own university would do the same thing.

If we have to replace some teams it seems like their is a choice. But the conference better not try to expand to 12 teams, i would rather go to 9 teams than expand.

Yeah I'm definitely for quality over quantity. And with respect to YSU--they're just not pulling their weight in this conference.

Oakland fan here. Thanks to Black Panther MKE for the invitation to come over here, and to both MKE and jgpanthers for making intelligent posts over on the Oakland board.
The Horizon has definitely become a "destination" league, even before Butler's performance last year. To state the obvious, HL membership would be a dream come true for most Oakland fans (including myself, although I'm skeptical about the chances of that happening in the near future). I would expect the HL to stay at 10 teams, but if expansion or re-shuffling ever moves closer to reality, my obviously biased opinion is that Oakland would be far and away the best addition at this point. It is a perfect fit geographically, has solid academics and a rapidly expanding research profile (new medical school, wide range of grad programs, etc), would already be competetive in most sports, and is building a good local fan base. It is true that the O'Rena is small, but Oakland's recent attendance would put it in the lower-middle of the HL pack (2733 this past year and 4156 the year before, although that number was skewed upward by counting two games at the Palace of Auburn Hills as home games). No offense to the IPFW's of the world, but Oakland would be a much better fit.
That said, I expect Oakland to stay in the Summit League in the near future, and hopefully the atrocious travel will be offset by multiple trips to the NCAA's.

Oakland would be far and away the best addition at this point. It is...building a good local fan base. I would say Oakland fans are not helping in this regard by only allowing members to read their forum. It's one thing to not allow guests to post, but to not even read? I know, I know...it takes all of 30 seconds to sign up. Nevertheless, if even one person (like myself) is turned away, that's one less person that can learn something about Oakland. As for the HL, dump YSU...that's addition by subtraction right there.

Good points by all. And I don't think the HL should go out of its way to sign OU. But it was mentioned IPFW wanted in, so I was thinking that if someone...good...from the Summit was interested the League should seriously consider it. Obviously OU would need to step up its facilities per HL requirements, but they've had some good years recently, and beat gb each of the past two years. By all accounts, they'd be competitive.

I just like Oakland because they repeatedly bash GB.

Lambeau Field? Yeah, it would be a GREAT place for the B10 title game -- if you moved the whole damn stadium to Chicago. Green Bay as a destination for fans coming from, say, Pennsylvania and Ohio? Ridiculous.
I would be shocked if the B10 title game is played anywhere but Lucas Oil in Indy or Soldier Field. You have to have the infrastructure of transportation and hotels to host an event like this. Green Bay simply doesn't.

I think the Big 10 will want a climate controlled stadium. My guess is 5 years at Lucas Field and then 5 years at Ford Field.

It'll probably never leave Lucas, seeing as how the basketball tournament is always held in Indianapolis.
