jdbrew and I were just discussing the prospects of JC getting fired.
He's surprised it hasn't happened yet. I don't see it happening now, and this is why:
AD Jim Schmidt's job is tied to Jimmy Collins. He has invested a lot, very recently, in Jimmy Collins leading the program. Firing Jimmy Collins means admitting failure in himself.
Does that mean JC is staying? No. They could work out that Jimmy retires or steps down. In that scenario, I think Tracy Dildy, a giant douchebag, would have to be hired. Jimmy will step down, IMO, if his guy gets the job.
We also talked about how people would chomp at the bit for that job, and the recruiting pluses (jdbrew, as a college coach, knows better than I the nuances of recruiting).
- Bill the school and team as Chicago's team. - The university is far ahead of where it was when JC was hired
If UIC were to hire a competent coach that can recruit the city, we could have another top-shelf program. And we need more of those programs. It doesn't do us any good to have the two Chicago teams near the bottom of the standings.

When Lou Chapman and Loyola are aggressively recruiting in our city and state, it certainly doesn't hurt us to have the Ramblers down in the dumps. I wonder how 'ole Ben Averkamp is doing these days.

The impression I have gotten is that, the AD, Jim Schmidt's hands are tied by some other greater influence on the stature of JC's job at UIC. The decision to extend his contract, offer a raise and retain him in the face of several recent issues may not be fully endorsed by him, but has to be carried out by him. Internal politics, previous commitments and/or promises, who knows. Would be a great opportunity for an eager D1 assistant to come in and rebuild the program and make name for himself. I understand that that possibility would also lend itself to his leaving for a big major program if successful. Have to live with those facts, but so be it.....A Pearl-like situation would be welcomed here. Then to get the next "Pearl", that's the question............ Like to cross that bridge when we come to it. Maybe Tom Crean will be available after he gets run out of Bloomington in a couple more years after not being able to rebuild IU? Think??

I'm not a UIC fan, but I would never wish Tom Crean upon you. That's like hoping you get syphilis.
Besides, he wouldn't want to open himself up to the possibility of getting swept by Milwaukee. Definitely would bring back the rivalry!

Like us...we're not so much pissed at them flooring us as we are about the way the prick acted at the end of the first game of the renewed series.

As much as we both have a healthy disdain for TC, both of our schools could learn something from him.. I have posted here and at UIC's board regarding marketing and sales efforts, or lack of, at both of our schools. TC gets it, we don't....cases in point.. After a November game while TC was there and after the his Final 4 team, one of those early season home games against severely undermaned competition for tune ups, that had about 12,000 at Bradley, a smaller crowd for them, TC had met with the team briefly and was at the bottom of an escalator personally greeting fans and shaking hands, thanking us for coming and inviting us all to come again........................... A DI coach thanking the fans in attendance....thought that was a great idea....maybe he's on to something... Another time while my oldest daughter was there, Tom and a few players were at a UWM game, in attendance, and there was some reaction by UWM fans, taunting and such I believe, and write ups in the JS the next day. Both pro and con.........certainly unfriendly comments from UWM folks. Anyway, my daughter wrote a rebuttal to an article in the JS and it was published in the Marquette paper. TC personally sought out my daughter by phone and reached her where she was working on campus to personally thank her for her published rebuttal and support of the team. Again, nice touch for the head coach of a DI team....... Like him or hate him...he worked hard and understood support and worked to keep it..... Maybe something both of our administrations, coaches and players need to recognize and understand..................instead of staring at empty seats game after game........Just a thought..

And he should be eligible immediately next season I believe....

He has to apply for the mandatory redshirt to be lifted, but there is ample precedent for this, such as Tyler Smith.
Hope it works out for him. UIC needed the help, so he should be...no, he WILL be their best player coming in.

It seems like Tracy Dildy is indeed being groomed as a replacement to the Big Fish Jimmy Collins. That press release has more quotes from Dildy than Collins.
Sorry, Big D.

If Dildy's the next "guy" here it will just about send those of us still hanging around out the door. Carter's coming to UIC and being available to play immediately is tied to some very serious family medical issues, as noted, not stellar recruiting efforts by Dildy. If Dildy is so good, why wasn't Carter here as a freshman, or why don't we have a Carter-like freshman on the roster already? ? I'm affraid that we at the UIC site are mostly in favor of a major coaching staff overhaul when the time comes that JC steps down/leaves. He hasn't produced any worthy assistants that have been promoted to head jobs anywhere else over 14 years...... Why would anyone think a current assistant, Dildy, would make the grade, especially if no one else has been after him so far? ?? Lots of new names on the roster, again, but they are just names right now. JC, Dildy and staff haven't shown an ability to recruit well over the long haul, at all. Too much turn over, disappointment, failure for any program to endure.
