I was told by a credible source that UWM has offered Whitefish Bay Dominican senior-to-be point guard J.R. Blount a scholarship for 2005-06.

J.R.'s a nice player, though I think Bryan Mullins of Downers Grove South (Ill.) might be a higher recruiting priority to play the point. He's reportedly been offered and has expressed medium interest. Has anyone heard anything on which way Torre Johnson of Garden City Community College (Kan.) is leaning? I believe he commited to the Panthers out of high school but was academically ineligible. He, in fact, might be the No. 1 in-state recruiting priority -- if you consider him in-state.

Per Mark Miller of Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook, J.R. will be visiting UWM today. He has visted Loyola and liked what he saw. Mark indicated that J.R.'s top 3 choices are UWM, UWGB and Loyola.

Given those three, I like our chances. ;D but then again, I may be a bit bias. haha

Mullins certainly is a higher priority and a better player. However, the chances of getting him are less realistic. Blount would be Plan B.

Beano, how unrealistic are the chances of landing Mullins and how does he compare to J.R. Haveyou seen Mullins play, and what are all of his options? Thanks for the insight.

At this point, indications are Loyola is the leader for J.R. Blount. But he will likely take a visit to Southern Methodist before picking a school. UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, Loyola and SMU appear to be J.R.'s final four. www.wbby.com

I would be shocked if Mullins didnt end up at Southern Illlinois. They have made him a pretty high priority. In fact, the last list I saw didnt have UWM in his top four choices.

Thanks for the insight, Beano. Question for Mark (feel free to put in your two cents, Beano): What is the latest scoop on either Blount or Tillema? Are there any new developments. UWM has been out of the news on the recruiting front of late and it feels like we need to make a big splash in-state sooner rather than later.
