HAHAHAAAAHAHAHA WE LOST TO UW-PARKSIDE!!!!!!! Sorry but that is just pathetic. PATHETIC. "Last year UWM dusted off UW-Parkside, 69-46" ( www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=367748). Are they going to be THIS bad all season?

We had freshman (RIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL) playing against guys who have played college basketball for several years (That's from Womack in the 1 word thread) Just an honest question here from an outsider ... are you guys really buying into that? Maybe I'm missing something, but from the box score I came up with this split for minutes played: UWM - Fr. (15), So. (49), Jr. (103), Sr. (33) UWP - Fr. (17), So. (82), Jr. (68), Sr. (33) Parkside actually had more minutes played by Fr. and So. kids. I also realize it was the 1st time several guys have suited up for UWM, but all of the upper classmen, except Franklin and Skinner, have at least been practicing with the team for a year or more. I think lack of game experience is a factor, but question whether youth and not understanding the system should be used as an excuse when most of these guys playing are upper classmen? Like everyone else, I think that UWM will get better thoughout the year with game experience. I'm just curious if anyone is worried that the "inexperienced" guys on the court are juniors and seniors.

This is a great point that you raise, zville. In fact, there is little question that three guys out of high school (or prep school) either should (Gentry, Thornton) or hopefully will (Swiggett) be playing a greater percentage of minutes than some of these upperclassmen to which you refer. We know why Swiggett didn't play more (he hasn't yet been cleared to play by the NCAA clearinghouse). Why Gentry and Thornton only played a combined 7 minutes is a bit of a mystery, though.

I can not wait until Jason Deutchman gets cleared to play. I see this guy working out in the pavillion every day and he has some serious skills, off the dribble, or catch and shoot, he just does not miss. He is going to be a steal for us.

I must have missed something here. Why isn't Deutchman allowed to play? And what is the latest on Swiggett?

I think we gotta stop hoping that these freshmen are going to make an impact, or that they are the answer. They may be talented, but they are freshmen and will take time to get up to speed on D I basketball, or apparently even D II level basketball. Where I look to is the vetrans, which have not played to expectations. We need to see Smith, Hanson, Hanen, Massiah, Paulsen, Franklin, Bendall, Mauldin, and even McKay to step it up BIG TIME! And I especially put this challenge out to Massiah...come on guy, you were supposed to be the HL Newcomer of the Year last year. What happen? Now you are a senior and a captin on the team. Play like it! The fact that this guy has not proven himself as a starter and leader this year, well that is pathetic.

raar look at the guys you're calling out as vets - Smith - second year in our program Hanson - first year as a starter Hansen - walk on for his first three years Massiah - second year juco with a history of injury Paulsen - first year playing here, and isn't he coming off an injury? Franklin - first year in the program Bendall - walk on Mauldin - first year here coming off major surgery
some of these guys are going to need some time to get used to playing again and they're all gonig to need some time to get used to their teammates and their new roles. Unfortunately, we don't have the time they're going to need, so I think it's going to fall to us to be patient and support their efforts while they take their lumps early on, and hopefully, build to some better play down the line.
My big complaint with the game the other night was the lack of energy and hustle. I can live with the growing pains if the effort is there, but I hate seeing the ball bounce on a rebound when our players have inside position and are watching it come down without jumping to take it off the rim. I'd like very much to see that improve on Monday.

I agree that we should be looking for improvements on Monday. More engery, some more asserted play by guys like Franklin, Paulsen and Massiah. More minutes for Gentry and Thornton and less minutes for Mckay. Swiggett getting cleared to play. Getting the ball down low and making efforts to score in the paint. Better shooting from outside from our guards (other than AL).
I guess ever person has a whipping by on their team and for now mine is Mckay.
