anybody remember the general feeling among Packer fans after the loss to the Bears? OK, now compare that to the feeling about the Pack now. Hopefully we'll see the same type of improvement through the course of the season. I can forgive the miscues a lot easier than I can forgive the lack of urgency and hustle throughout most of the game. There were some bright spots though.
Ricky Franklin had a sweet feed to Myles cutting down the lane for an easy basket. I liked that. In spite of getting burned a few times on the press, there were also a few inbounds plays that were a beat away from five and 10 second calls. I liked that as well. Skinner should give us all hope. I know it's hard to focus on these small moments, but I think each player showed moments of really nice play, now they just have to learn the system and one another so they can start putting together moments of really nice team performance. As long as the effort is there, I think the results will follow.

The game was horrible. Wild shots, splotty defense, lack of inside presence.
Fundamentals boys, fundamentals. For a few minutes I started thinking that some of these guys had barely touched a basketball before.
I hope that this game brings some people on this board back to reality. It is going to be a very tough year and I hope that nobody expects this team to blast through conference.
But be proud of the team! Hopefully these guys will be a well-greased machine in a few years.

And Tyrone Deacon is a very good player. [/quote]
Tyrone Deacon dribbled with his head down all the time and in the 2nd half, after I'm sure a butt-chewing in our lockerroom was delivered, he was held to 2 points - his 5 fouls proved he can't defend anyone, although we sure didn't take advantage - no offense, he doesn't suck, but if he can drop 20, we'd be lucky to hold Cotton to 50 - not to mention all the other far more talented guards we'll see than Deacon.

Got to imagine that things can only go up from here on out. I know I have high expectations, and we should never again lose to a div-2 opponent, but it was an exhibition and this is an entirely brand new team that has to learn to play together. I think it's going to be fun to watch this team grow as the year transpires.

Everything seemed to go wrong. The dance team had no music for its first appearance. The sub toss didn't work and they couldn't get the dam things to fly like the chickens did. The team sucked. All in all a bad night.
One bright spot was the students. They were loud, there were a few hundred of them and they really helped liven things up.

So is mauldin a wash this year? Is his leg gonna keep him sidelined? That hurts.

I was NOT impressed with Mauldin at all. He looked absolutely lost out there, and didn't really demonstrate a D-1 level of ability. Nothing personal with the guy, just didn't really look like he belonged.

I thought Mauldin at least looked like a better option than Bendall. Hey may not be AT bought he is a guy that can get rebounds, give us a few put backs, and be a decent role guy.

I agree he looked better than Bendall, but if we're forced to look at it like that...that can't be good.
To me it looked like he was really favoring his knee. He is 6'9 though and you can't teach height!

Sam is still recovering but I'm told he's working very hard. Patience, folks.
The bad was obvious last night. The good was a little more subtle, but it was definitely there. This will be a fun ride.

I thought Mauldin looked OK while he was out there, granted he was not out there much and it appeared his knee is a big part of that still. Hopefully he can go all year and give some solid minutes because once conference starts that size is going to be needed.
Smith has brought some control to the game, but I almost was wishing last night he was less controled on the defensive end. Skinner was impressive and I was shocked how nice of a shot he has. Other than that 3 ball he took he didnt miss. NICE!!!
Why did Gentry and Thornton not get much time on the court? I still think Thornton will redshirt so that part made some sense to me, but is the same a possibilty for Gentry? The kid looks like an athlete but with only about 5 mintues of playing time how can Jeter really get a feel of whether or not he can be a contributor this year? The jury is still out for these two for me until I get to see them play some decent minutes. I kinda gotta lump Anderson in here too, guess I expected more from him but he didnt really play or do anthing when he did to impress me.
While Franklin and Paulsen did not have very good games I think the both are going to be very good players for the team this year and probably the two bright spots in my opinion. Someone else said it and I agree 100%, Franklin has not been involved in organized ball for over a year so there is going to be some rust. As for Paulsen, you can tell he can shoot and the inside game will come when he slows down and is not thinking so much out there. You could just tell he was rushing some things just enough to throw him off.
It still is beyond me why Mckay was in the game so much. Look its nice and all that he wanted to take it to the basket or shoot it...but he wanted to do it every damn time he touched the ball and never looked for the open man when there usually was one...or two. I'm sure Al or Franklin could have drove and threw crap up too but they didn't and for some reason are getting basted here by some.
Al sure can shoot but it sure would be nice if he was an inch or three taller so he could play the two and we could have Franklin at the 1. I think he will the be a nice stop gap leader for this year for the team.
